The uploader of articles to Sci-Net has been improved!
Now the upload is separated into two steps: first, uploading PDF file to server. The second step, removing signatures / watermarks from PDF, is now optional and can be activated by pressing a button. After the button is pressed, Sci-Net will process article page-by-page, removing both hidden and visible watermarks. For large PDF files, it might take some time.
(previously, this preprocessing was activated automatically and impossible to avoid, which made problematic to upload, for example, large books)
The preprocessing itself has also been improved, now allowing to process larger PDF files much faster and without freezing the upload.
Previous version also ignored visible watermarks on some publishers (e.g. Karger) This is now fixed.
Now it is you turn to test how updated functionality works! Apply for Sci-Net testing here: t.me/scinetesting/2 (write hello and your research field in the char)

Sci-Net is constantly improving! ๐
The main page of the project (sci-net.xyz) has just been updated to include some information about the project, and why it is better than sharing research papers on Telegram or via classic paper-sharing forums.
There are numerous advantages. First, all uploads to Sci-Net will always remain public and accessible without registration, same as Sci-Hub.
In addition to that, Sci-Net is truly anonymous: unlike Telegram or other social media, it does not ask for your mobile phone to register, or even email. The service implements a bunch of algorithms to clear out PDF watermarks, that contain information about university where the paper was downloaded.
Another important advantage, is that classic paper-sharing communities are closed, and built upon hierarchy: typically, a member is rewarded for uploading papers by increased standing in the hierarchy (which only makes sense within the community)
Sci-Net implements a novel approach to reward sharing, based on decentralized meme tokens. Tokens are transferred directly from user who requested paper, to the member who uploaded it. Then, tokens can be easily withdrawn from platform and exchanged. Therefore, Sci-Net platform is open.
Sci-Net uses Sci-Hub meme coin ($SCIHUB) as a token, therefore building upon a legacy of Sci-Hub.
For users who registered first, Sci-Net will offer a funding of 1000 meme tokens! To get invite code to register, apply here: t.me/scinetesting/2 (do not forget to write your research field)

๐ Update on Sci-Net: a section added to upload papers by yourself (without waiting for someone to request it)
How: you drag & drop the paper to the upload area, the server will automatically extract DOI from the first page of the PDF file, then check if the DOI is already available on Sci-Hub / Sci-Net / preprint / open access
If DOI is not available anywhere yet, the paper will be uploaded to Sci-Net and appear in your "Library / self-uploads" section
(experimental feature, might work with bugs)

Sci-Net main page has been updated with a new design to make the message bolder!
Instead of simply enumerating points, the main idea and advantages of the project over traditional paper-sharing is now explained in a scientific way, with theorems, proofs, and figures.
The connection of the project to Sci-Hub is also made clear (Sci-Net builds upon Sci-Hub meme coin foundation to create a new knowledge economy)
The page should display correctly on screens from 1200px and wider (the mobile support will come later, because not many people are reading papers on mobile screen anyway)
Web: sci-net.xyz
Apply for invitation code: t.me/scinetesting/2
(write your research field to get 1000 tokens free)
if you have specific ideas about making design better (e.g. colors, margins, layouts) you can share them in suggestions

Sci-Net knowledge economy vs. paywall economy: key differences ๐
What is the difference between paywalled access and Sci-Net approach?
Even though both might appear similar at a first glance, the differences are profound.
The most obvious is, of course, that paywalls are prohibitive: prices on publisher websites are too high and they are out of reach for normal student and researcher. Compared to this, the entry tax on Sci-Net is symbolic and is not higher than an equivalent of a cup of coffee in most countries.
Next, in paywall mode, profits are made by publisher, and ordinary researcher has no control on how the money are used.
On Sci-Net, you're using tokens directly to reward uploaders. Payments go to fellow researchers, not to the platform.
But the most important is following: publishers will charge for access to the same paper again and again. Sci-Net will only do that one time when paper is uploaded (tokens will be transferred from requester to uploader) Once the paper is uploaded and accepted, it will remain free forever and for everyone -- even users who are not registered on the platform will be able to access it.
That is, all Sci-Net transactions contribute directly to public domain.
So do not hesitate to get the invite code here: sci-net.xyz/invite and start using the platform
๐๐๐
(For Iran: Solana tokens can be obtained on nobitex.ir)

The results of early Sci-Net testing: overall, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Most people found the platform convenient (but there are still much work to be done to improve the platform)

UPDATE to the Sci-Hub token
Sci-Hub token that is used for decentralized rewards in Sci-Net will be moved to the another address (2MaFszzCmpJqYPjVXsNytmiHfgckWbtBVq4WSoxjVGkf) and the older address will no longer be supported since tomorrow.
What does it mean? After the update, the price of Sci-Hub token will be higher, around 1 USD instead of 0.001. If you had some tokens deposited to the platform, the sum will be automatically recalculated, i.e. 1000 tokens at the old rate will become 1 token -- but do not worry, you will be able to withdraw and exchange it for the same price as before.
The minimum amount for request will remain at least 1 token, which means that uploaders will start to receive more reward for their work.
Also: active uploaders who helped a lot of people to solve requests, will receive gift tokens to their accounts (100 fixed plus the number of papers uploaded)
Hope you like the update.
Soon the design of Sci-Net will also be updated, and tutorials on how to use the platform added.

New functionality testing: from now on, every uploader can reserve requests for solving. The reservation will be active for 30 minutes, and other uploaders will not be able to process the request during that time.
No need to upload stub PDFs anymore!
You can reserve 1 request at a time.
Bots policy: using bots is allowed and even encouraged, if they upload correct solutions. However, if bots are destroying the normal operation (e.g. by uploading blank pages) these accounts will be fined.
Sci-Net will implement API to make work for bots easier in next versions.
Some members complain that bots solve requests too fast, so they do not get a chance to help anyone. This only happens because the number of requests on Sci-Net at the moment is not very high. If Sci-Net had the same traffic as Sci-Hub, the bots would quickly become overloaded.
So the correct solution to this problem is to promote Sci-Net actively among your colleagues and peers, write tutorials and explanations on how to use it, and etc.
Sci-Hub will also work on promotion of new service, but somewhat later: right now a more fundamental, technical work is being done, such as organization of the whole collection of files (90TB) This might be not directly visible to end user, but is also important in the long run.

Sci-Net just became a little bit more universal, with its new invite code generator function.
Previously, to get invite code or add more tokens to the account, it was neccesary to scan the QR code. The problem with former approach was, that these codes are not supported everywhere, and were not available in browsers extension wallets.
To get invite on Sci-Net, you had no option but to install a Phantom wallet on the mobile phone.
Now the process becomes easier: you can register on Sci-Net using basically any Solana wallet, even browser extension: all you need to do is to transfer tokens to Sci-Net wallet address, with a specific decimal part.
The decimal part is randomly generated each time the invite code is created. When transaction is detected by server, that has specific numbers after floating point, the invite code is activated and charged with a number of tokens equal to integer part.
You can create an invite code using any phrase, then activate it and use the code to register, to share with friends or to top up your account.
Upcoming: the next update will introduce a service that makes buying Sci-Hub tokens easier.
