University of Cambridge -Public Engagement and Communications Assistant Deadline: 24 January 2023❗

About the role:
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a leading institute for biological research. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to contribute to the public engagement and communications activities at the LMB.

Working with colleagues in the Public Engagement team, you will support the development of public engagement activities by members of the LMB, delivery of events such as the upcoming public LMB Open Day and host tours for visiting groups. You will coordinate our flagship school outreach programme, the Microscopes4schools Competition, and facilitate work experience placements. You will support engagement within LMB, helping to build capacity for public engagement amongst our scientists and support staff.

You will be a key member of the LMB News team, drafting and editing articles on LMB science and staff successes, posting on institute social media channels, supporting development of new video and graphical content, and coordinating media visits to the institute.

The internships, which have a duration of six months, are paid. ESO offers a monthly allowance of 600 EUR and pays for accommodation (rent and bills) in a shared apartment near ESO's headquarters. ESO also covers the costs of a return flight from/to the intern's home station.

The internship would provide a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in face-to-face science commuication activities, in a busy science centre. The successful candidates will have the chance to present planetarium shows, lead guided tours and deliver other hands-on activities.
The position requires good communications skills (oral and written) in both English and German. You should be comfortable having a conversation about astronomy in both languages.
