We were soon in open country, which was covered with volcanic deposits. I could see many spouts of stream rising in the air. They came from hot water fountains, and indicated the volcanic activity of the soil.

Our guide was looking on with utter calmness and indifference. He never moved a muscle, but remained motionless. He just gently shook his head and pointed to my uncle.
ကျွန်တော်တို့၏ လမ်းပြသည် တည်တည်ငြိမ်ငြိမ်နဲ့ မထုံတက်တေ အကြည့်နဲ့သာ ကြည့်နေပါသည်။
နည်းနည်းမျှ မလှုပ်။ ခေါင်းလေးကို လှုပ်ရုံးလောက်သာ လှုပ်ပြီး ကျွန်တော့် ဦးလေးဆီသာ လက်ညိုး ထိုးပြလေသည်။

“စိတ်ကို တည်တည်ငြိမ်ငြိမ်ထားပါ ငါ့တူရာ၊ နောက်တစ်ရက်လောက်လေးပဲ ဦးလေး တောင်းဆိုပါတယ်ကွာ”

“ဒီ တစ်ရက်ထဲမှာ တို့လိုချင်တဲ့ ရေမတွေ့ရင်
တို့တွေ ကမ္ဘာ့ မျက်နှာပြင်ပေါ်ကို ပြန်တက်ကြမယ်၊ ဒါကို ငါ ကျိန် ပြောပါတယ်”
