Infographic: Order of Execution in Salesforce
When inserting, updating or upserting records in Salesforce, the records go through 22 steps save procedure in a specific sequence. It is like a checklist that every pilot follows before the take off.
Validation rules, triggers, workflows, process builder, flows, assignment rules, escalation rules, auto response rules etc. - everything needs to be executed in a pre-defined order so that the system behaves the way you expect it to.
In this blog post, you'll find a colorful infographic on the order of execution that Salesforce follows for saving records - something that you may want to print and stick in front of you when designing solutions in Salesforce. (The PDF version of the infographic is available to download in the blog post)
And if the system is not behaving the way you expect it to, then, the blog post also covers looking through the debug log and how to identify the execution of different components so that you can diagnose and troubleshoot the problem.
