Canada's pesticide agency PMRA has failed to warn Canadians their sports fields, golf courses and vegetable farms could expose them to dangerous levels of a pesticide so toxic that American authorities published an unusual public warning in May.

Good news! 🎉
We won our preliminary hearing—now Health Canada must show us that they have looked at the new science on #glyphosate presented to them, or tell us that they didnt.
This will prove very helpful to us for our main action on this case.

Striving for transparency: Why Canada’s pesticide regulations need an overhaul
Canada is long-overdue for scientifically-driven, robust and transparent pesticide regulation. A newly created Science Advisory Committee aims to address this.
Safe Food Matters has been in court w/ Health Canada on glyphosate since 2019, following the notice of objection to pre-harvest use we wrote in 2017.

Daily News: Groups Petition EPA to Remove from the Market the Weed Killer Glyphosate
Last week, farmworker organizations and Beyond Pesticides—represented by the Center for Food Safety—filed a petition with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) urging that the weed killer glyphosate be removed from the market.
[The farmworker groups petitioning include the Farmworker Association of Florida, Lideres Campesinas, Alianza Nacional De Campesinas, and the Rural Coalition.]
Jay Feldman, the executive director of Beyond Pesticides:
“The threat of glyphosate is way outside the bounds of any reasonable person’s definition of acceptable harm, surpasses allowable risk under federal pesticide law, and represents the poster child for what has gone dangerously wrong with EPA’s program to control toxic pesticides in our environment, homes, workplaces, and communities, with disproportionate injury to farmworkers and landscapers...”
“...This petition attempts to hold EPA accountable to the rule of law, while recognizing that glyphosate, which causes adverse effects to biological systems—from soil microbiota to the gut microbiome, can be replaced by cost-effective organic food production and land management.”
Prior litigation in 2022 struck down EPA’s human health assessment, with the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit finding that the agency wrongfully dismissed glyphosate’s cancer risk. Meanwhile, verdicts against the manufacturer, Bayer, continue to pile up—a December jury verdict in Pennsylvania awarding $3.5 million and a November jury in Missouri ordering $1.56 billion to be paid to four plaintiffs.
