🇷🇺🛶🇿🇦 Russian National Rowing and Canoeing Team Training in South Africa
The Russian men's and women's rowing and canoeing teams – 21 athletes in total – are currently in Pretoria for a training camp.
According to head coach Roman Zarubin, South Africa offers the perfect environment for canoeing, a summer sport that thrives in dry, mild climates.
This isn't the Russian national team’s first time training here: our athletes visited South Africa in 2009 and held two camps in Pretoria last year.
🏆 The Russian team is preparing for the 2025 World Canoe Sprint Championships in Milan, and we’re wishing them success as they train hard for victory!

“We have excellent conditions for training – great facilities, a fantastic gym, an outdoor pool, and a beautiful waterway for our workouts," Roman Zarubin shared. "The South African side is incredibly hospitable, always meeting our needs and helping us reach our best performance. Beyond the sports facilities, we're treated to fantastic food, enjoy the stunning nature, and even get the unique chance to see giraffes and springboks visiting our camps each morning.
We don’t feel like guests; we feel at home. This is especially important given the current global political climate. We look forward to returning next year!”
