An important message to anyone who does not understand how marking system works.

At high levels, it boils down to whether examiners are willing to give 9s for anything. Do they require perfection for a 9? Is an essay or a speech ever perfect? Around the 7 mark examiners are pretty consistent, but in the 8 to 9 range, it's all over the place.

For instance, if they give 9s for Fluency and Grammar, they may not give the same for vocabulary or pronunciation, or visa versa. It seems that our score is not entirely on our hands, but it does not concern low-level candidates. Between the mark 8 and 9, on the other hand, keep your heads up as we will find 'our examiner' at last.

You may say the system is rigged and not unfair; however, we have consider one little element called 'the human factor'. Everyone is different, so markings differ as well.

Information is presented by the table which depicts the yearly milk production in four different countries, namely Netherlands, Australia, Tanzania, and Guatemala in 1990, 2000 and 2010.

Overall, there was a marked rise in terms of milk produce across all four countries except for Australia, which saw a decline in its production of milk over the years. It is also clear that similar to Australia, Netherlands produced milk on a significantly larger scale than Tanzania and Guatemala.

In detail, Netherlands, with 11,262,000 liters of milk production, was the leading producer in 1990, albeit the figure had a slight drop to 11,155,000 liters by 2000. However, the production rebounded and reached its highest level of 11,466,000 in 2010, making it the highest milk output across given countries. Despite manufacturing milk in large quantities, Australia saw a downward trend, starting at 11,246,000 liters in the first year. By the end of the second and final year, Australian milk production fell to respective points of 11,105,000 and 9,165,000 liters, showing a gradual decline within the period.

As for Tanzania and Guatemala, it is evident that their scale of milk production was considerably smaller, with the former standing at 87,000 liters of milk in 1990. This figure then climbed to 142,000 liters in 2000 and 155,000 liters ten years later. A similar pattern can be observed in the milk production of Guatemala, experiencing a rise from an initial 26,000 liters to the final 84,000 liters of milk by 2010.

Intelligence is the most important quality of a leader. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a view that the most crucial characteristic one should have as a leader is intelligence. While being smart is indeed important when it comes to leading people, I believe there are other essential personal assets, too, such as compassion and sociability.

Understandably, some people advocate for possessing intelligence over other qualities to become a leader, which is especially useful when used properly to overcome challenges. Strong problem-solving skills not only facilitate work processes, but also makes leaders indispensable, especially to their followers. In fact, individuals expect the person who leads them to be adept at navigating through work and life’s difficulties, which takes brainwork and critical thinking. Thus, dealing with people in a smart way may be one of the contributing factors to becoming a good leader.

Intelligence is not the sole factor at play, however. In reality, making others follow your instructions and commands is a daunting task when they assume that you lack compassion for their professional and personal lives. Unlike leaders who think that they are above other people, those focusing on love and compassion instead of control and dominance have more chances of forming better relationships with colleagues. By prioritizing the former assets, one can handle people more effectively and make them believe in their collective ideas and goals.

Furthermore, the ability of a leader to communicate with clients and people they work with cannot be denied. It is no surprise that many companies and corporations include sociability as a chief requirement for managerial positions, thereby highlighting the need to be more articulate. Each person, by nature, is different, making it difficult for leading managers to find a way to connect with everyone. However, with the assistance of their sociable nature, many managers can become well-liked leaders in their field despite the complications in terms of dealing with the public.

In summary, while intelligence is vital for leadership, compassion and sociability are equally important. In my view, a great leader balances problem-solving skills with emotional understanding and interaction to inspire trust, collaboration, and unity within their team.

The line graph presents information on how many people participated in four different sports activities in one region from 1985 to 2005.

Overall, the most popular activity was playing rugby for the first half of the timeframe, but far more interest was shown towards tennis afterwards, surpassing rugby participation. Both basketball and badminton, by contrast, garnered the fewest number of people, mostly remaining stable throughout the period.

Looking at sports activities with higher participation rates, rugby participation stood at just under 250 in 1985, while the figure for tennis was 150. Then, the former declined, whilst the latter gained popularity, both attracting 200 players in 1995. However, over the second half of the period, tennis players outnumbered those who played rugby, reaching a peak of 230 people by 2005. While tennis became the most preferred sports activity, the number of rugby participants fell initially to 150 in 2000 and eventually to 50 at the end of the timespan.

As for basketball and badminton, the interest in these sports remained almost unchanged over the decades. In 1985, only 75 people played basketball, and this figure had an increase to approximately 80 over the first decade, finally falling back to its opening point (75) by 2005. A similar observation can be made in terms of badminton, with the figure hovering around 50 people within the same time span, consistently attracting the fewest participants of all sports.

Some people believe that economic growth is the only way to end world poverty and hunger. Others argue that economic growth is damaging the environment and should be slowed down.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

It is widely believed that social issues like poverty and hunger can be tackled with economic growth, while some argue that countries should slowly develop their economies as this has negative effects on the surrounding environment. I believe that both points of view are arguably significant factors to consider; however, without a prosperous economy, it would be extremely challenging for countries to address social issues, such as impoverishment and hunger as well as environmental problems.

Some people advocate for the idea that economic growth of a country is important to deal with growing issues of poverty and hunger. While others may claim that this approach is utopian and thus ineffective, it is crucial to factor in the fact that 85% of the world population live on less than $30 per day. However, the remaining segment of the population has higher earnings, thereby leading a better lifestyle, which is not because of their income levels, but living locations. For example, a person residing in an economically robust country has a better chance of being above the poverty line, compared to those who live in developing nations. Thus, a strong economic climate is essential to reduce global poverty and hunger substantially.

Conversely, the damage economic growth has on the environment should not be overlooked. In reality, the more prosperous the economy of a nation is, the more exacerbated environmental issues become, meaning this development should be slowed down to minimize the repercussions. A growing economy usually translates into higher levels of pollution, increased consumerism, and more consumption of non-renewable energy sources, necessitating proper measures to remedy the situation. If countries temporarily halt the growth of their economies for some time, responsible organizations would have a sufficient amount of time to offset the negative impacts to protect the environment.

Even though a slowdown in economic development is a good strategy, it is tenuous at best taking into account its effectiveness in the long run. In my view, governments should continue further enhancing their economic state since it is important for reducing hunger and poverty levels. Besides this, particularly developed countries can take control over environmental problems if only they have significant resource allocation. For instance, since 1980, the UK and the US have reduced CO2 emissions through cleaner technologies. Were it not for the advances in their economies, environmental challenges would have become too difficult to overcome even for the most developed nations, making economic improvement an indispensable part of a solution to combat issues above.

In conclusion, while economic growth can harm the environment, it is crucial for reducing poverty and hunger. Therefore, instead of slowing development, governing bodies should balance growth with sustainability, using resources to deal with social and environmental challenges effectively.

There is one thing I should let you know about this essay above. I flipped through two articles before starting to write, which is of course time-consuming if your reading speed is below average 😐

But it took me 3-4 minutes to collect all the data I need to craft this essay. The thing is that do a lot of reading if you want to improve your writing skills because it is next to impossible to enhance your abilities as a writer without much reading.

To do that, you can use multiple platforms, free and subscription based, such as New Scientist, Wired, or National Geographic, but remember to write down collocations you may find useful for later use.

Cheers! πŸ”₯

People living in the 21st century have a better quality of life than people who lived in previous centuries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Throughout human history, there have been many changes to the way we live, behave and think, but the most important aspect to consider is the quality of life people have access to. Some have claimed that living in the 21st century is better compared to bygone centuries, which I believe is mostly true, albeit with some challenges of its own.

One major disadvantage of modern life is associated with the way people treat the surrounding environment. Specifically, revolutionized industrialization and improved technologies have given rise to many unforeseen environmental issues, such as global warming and climate change, making it difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Increased levels of pollution and other harmful gases slowly poison our lungs and cause respiratory diseases, which directly threatens human life expectancy. Another downside lies in the widespread use of the internet. By doing so, many individuals around the globe have become more isolated and alienated, losing touch with their loved ones and friends. This has resulted in unwanted feelings like depression, loneliness, and anxiety. Take an example of a seemingly developed and economically robust country, the US, where more than half of its population reported the cases of feeling lonely and isolated, proving that the 21st century is not entirely better than those previous times.

Notwithstanding these drawbacks, in my view, there are a number of major benefits that people take for granted. One of them is the rise of new medical and educational breakthroughs, meaning education and medicine today are far superior and more developed than in the past. Studies have shown that fewer and fewer people die of chronic or previously incurable illnesses that have become more manageable, reducing mortality rates. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is a stark case in point. To be more precise, world populations have already gained necessary immunity against this deadly virus thanks to medical and educational advances in respective fields. Furthermore, modernity has opened doors to many opportunities in terms of education, with the help of the internet platforms. In fact, people are one click away from learning invaluable knowledge and information that can support their holistic learning and academic development, which would be impossible without the rise of new technological and scientific advances.

In summary, arriving at the conclusion, especially claiming that the 21st century has worsened the quality of life for us is not a fully solid point. While environmental problems and mental health issues have stemmed from modernity, it has also paved the way for advancements in medical research and personal learning experiences.

The line chart shows information on the percentage of computer ownership across households in one country in Europe from 1997 to 2011.

Overall, the proportion of households owning only one computer remained dominant throughout the entire period. While the ownership of two and three or more computers saw an upward trend, with the former gaining more popularity, households without one had a steady decline within the same timeframe.

Examining the details more closely, it is seen that the proportion of households possessing a computer stood at just below 45% in 1997, which then experienced a slight rise before culminating exactly at 45% by 2011. When it comes to those with no computers, the figure accounted for around 48% at the beginning. Over the following years, it steadily declined and reached approximately 23%, marking the most significant decline in the dataset.

As for the remaining categories, such as households with two and three or more computers, it can be observed that they followed an upward trajectory. During the first three years, starting from 1997, there was no ownership of the latter, while the former’s percentage went from 7% to 10% by 2000. After this point, the proportion of three or more computers began to rise, reaching only about 8% in 2011, whereas the figure for those with two computers witnessed the most substantial rise to well under a third at the end of the period.

Unless
you have good analytical skills, you will have a difficult time writing reports. Plus, charts and graphs seem complicated at a first glance, but on a closer look, you are in for a big surprise β€” they are not as complex as they appear to be.

You never know before a try, so don't be afraid to analyze reports even though you don't have any previous experience in chart analysis yet. Lack of a better word, it is simply a phobia, bugging you all day long. Take your feet off the brakes and act on it right away.
