🚀 Today marks the 9️⃣1️⃣st anniversary since the birth of Yuri Gagarin, the first cosmonaut on the Earth. His flight aboard the #Vostok spaceship went down in history as humanity’s greatest scientific and technological breakthrough and showcased the country’s intellectual and scientific power.

Yuri Gagarin was born in Klushino Village, Gzhatsky District, Smolensk Region. There in 1941, when the Great Patriotic War broke out, Yura first saw Soviet aircraft flying to defend the Motherland and began to dream of becoming a pilot.

In 1954, when Gagarin was a student of an industrial college, he joined the Saratov air club, where he decided to dedicate his life to aviation. After completing flight courses with honors, Yuri Gagarin enrolled into an aviation school in 1955 and started serving as a military pilot in the Northern Fleet Air Force of the USSR at the end of 1957.

In 1959, he found out that volunteers were recruited for the upcoming flight to space and wrote a report asking to be included in a cosmonaut group.

In 1959, a secret selection of candidates for cosmonauts began in the Soviet Air Forces: the commission reviewed the files of 3,461 fighter pilots. Out of them, only 20 volunteers were selected.

In 1959, Yuri Gagarin and 19 other pilots arrived at 'Star Town', located 25 km away from Moscow. There, he completed theoretical and practical flight training, including simulations of weightlessness and high-G forces in a centrifuge. In October 1960, a group of six people began training on the Vostok spacecraft simulator at a research institute in Zhukovsky.

Following a series of training sessions, exams and tests, it was decided that Yuri Gagarin would become cosmonaut №1.

Yuri Gagarin’s historic space flight, which marked the beginning of the era of manned spaceflight, took place on April 12, 1961. #OnThisDay in 1961, at 9:07 a.m. at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Yuri pronounced his famous catchphrase, ‘Off we go!’. Vostok, the first spacecraft with a man aboard, was launched. Gagarin spent 1 hour and 48 minutes in space, making a full orbit around the Earth, and landed safely in the Saratov Region.

The news of the flight quickly swept across the globe. Thousands of people came to greet Gagarin in Moscow.

🌐 During two years after this milestone event, Yuri Gagarin travelled to over 30 countries where he was celebrated as a hero, including UK, France, Cuba, Japan, India, and Liberia. This tour was unofficially referred to as the 'Peace Mission'. Gagarin’s famous smile won over the entire world, earning respect for the Soviet people.

🕯 The life of the first cosmonaut was tragically cut short on March 27, 1968: he perished during a training flight on a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15UTI jet. Gagarin’s death shocked people all over the world.

🎖 The pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union Yuri Gagarin is immortalised in the names of settlements and space objects. The urn with his ashes is entombed in the Kremlin wall next to the ashes of engineer Sergei Korolev and other prominent and distinguished Soviet persons.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: The last three years became the “moment of truth” of a kind. Following the launch of the special military operation to protect the people of Donbass and Novorossiya, the collective West showed what it is worth. Both the infamous rule of law and basic rules of decency were cast aside. <...>

A new global divide was formed de-facto with the western minority on one side, and the World majority on the other. These are all countries, as well as people of goodwill in the West, who stand for the establishment of a multipolar world supported by a balance of interests.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: I would not like to run too far ahead. As President of Russia Vladimir Putin said a number of times, we are always ready for talks. Yet, our national interests must be guaranteed.

The root cause of the conflict in Ukraine must be eradicated – the President highlighted this aspect of the utmost importance in his telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on February 12.

I would like to remind you that, first and foremost, we speak about eradication of threats to security of Russia from the Ukrainian and the western direction, which emerged following the NATO expansion to the east and the necessity to cease the practice, which the Kiev regime adopted, to exterminate everything which is somewhat connected to Russia and the Russian world. <...>

It is too early to make far-reaching conclusions from what we have just heard from Donald Trump’s administration, but it is encouraging. The President of the United States admitted himself that the NATO expansion and attempts to get Ukraine involved in it became one of the root causes of the conflict.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks about the multipolarity of the modern world and the need to respect the interests of all states, both large and small. For the first time in three years, US diplomats voted jointly with Russia and our associates in the UN against the odious resolution of the General Assembly promoted by Kiev and its patrons from the European Union. <...>

❓ Question: This year, Russia will celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. <...> Are we doing everything right to fully preserve the state’s historical memory of the past and the present?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: The 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is the pinnacle event of the year. The Foreign Ministry, as well as other government agencies, is preparing to celebrate it in the most fitting manner, paying tribute to the memory of the heroic deeds of our predecessors. <...>

Despite the information war launched by the collective West, Russia’s voice is heard clearly on the international stage. The world understands that falsifying history and undermining spiritual and moral values will result in deteriorating statehood and the loss of sovereignty. This is why the appeal of the CIS Heads of State to the peoples of the CIS and the international community on the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 was adopted on October 8, 2024 in Moscow.

💬 С.В.Лавров: Не хотелось бы забегать слишком далеко вперёд. Как неоднократно говорил Президент России В.В.Путин, мы всегда готовы к переговорам. Но при этом наши национальные интересы должны быть гарантированно обеспечены.

Первопричины конфликта на Украине должны быть искоренены – этот важнейший момент глава государства особо подчеркнул в своём телефонном разговоре 12 февраля с президентом США Д.Трампом.

Напомню: речь, прежде всего, идёт о необходимости устранения угроз безопасности России с украинского и западного направления в целом, возникших в результате экспансии НАТО на восток, а также о необходимости прекращения взятой киевским режимом на вооружение практики истребления всего того, что так или иначе связано с Россией и Русским миром. <...>

• Д.Трамп не хочет предоставлять их [гарантии безопасности] Украине, возглавляемой Зеленским. У него свой взгляд на ситуацию, который он регулярно и прямо излагает. Эта война никогда не должна была начинаться.

• Европа и Великобритания хотят, чтобы всё это продолжалось. То, как они приняли Зеленского в Лондоне после скандала в Вашингтоне, свидетельствует, что они хотят поднять ставки и готовят что-то, чтобы подтолкнуть администрацию Д.Трампа к агрессивным действиям против России.

• Речь идёт не о территориях, а о людях, которых при помощи законов лишили своей истории. Ещё до начала специальной военной операции, когда война продолжалась в нарушение Минских соглашений. Территории важны только потому, что на них живут люди. Key talking points:

• I think what is going on in the United States is a return to normalcy. <...> The fact is that a normal administration without any, you know, unchristian ideas came to power and the reaction was such an explosion in the media, in the politics all over the world is very interesting and very telling.

• When we met in Riyadh with Marco Rubio, Mike Waltz and Steve Witkoff they suggested the meeting and they said, look, we want normal relations in the sense that the foundation of the American foreign policy under the Donald Trump administration is the national interest of the United States. But at the same time, we understand that other countries also have their national interest.

• It is very well understood that countries like the United States and Russia would never have their national interest the same. They would not coincide maybe even 50 or less percent. But when they do coincide this situation must be used to develop this simultaneous and similar interest. But when the interests do not coincide and contradict each other then the responsible countries must do everything not to allow this contradiction to degenerate into confrontation, especially military confrontation which would be disastrous for many other countries.

• The beginning of the special military operation was a decision because all other attempts, all other alternatives to bring things into some positive dimension failed for ten years after the illegal coup in Kiev, in violation of the deal signed the night before and guaranteed by the Germans, French and Poles.

• I don't think the Americans would drop from NATO. At least President Trump never hinted that this might be the case. But what he did bluntly say was that if you want us to protect you, to give you security guarantees, you pay what is necessary.

• But President Trump doesn't want to provide these security guarantees to Ukraine under Zelensky. He has his own view of the situation which he bluntly presents every now and then, that this war should never have started – that pulling Ukraine into NATO in violation of its Constitution, in violation of the Declaration of Independence of 1991, on the basis of which we recognized Ukraine as a sovereign state. For several reasons including that this Declaration was saying no NATO, no blocs, neutral status. Another thing which this Declaration also confirmed and solidified - all rights of Russian and all other national minorities are to be respected.

• Europe and the UK they certainly want this to continue. The way they received Zelensky in London after the scandal in Washington, it's an indication that they want to raise the stakes and they are preparing something to pressure the Donald Trump administration back into some aggressive action against Russia.

• It's not about the territories, it's about the people who were deprived of their history by law. Territories are important only because people live on these territories. The people who live on the territories are descendants of those who for hundreds of years were building Odessa & other cities on those very lands who were building ports, roads, who were founding those lands and who associated with the history of this land.

❗️ The Americans know that we would not betray our commitments, legal commitments, the political commitments which we develop with China.

❓ Question: What about President Putin's statement in June 2024 regarding the conditions for a settlement or even to start negotiations with Ukraine. And my reading of it has been President Putin's position has been the same. Your position has been the same as the President's. It's been also by the Vice Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said it. And yet I think there are some in the West that perceive that you don't really mean what you say.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: Let them be misguided. You know, our conscience is very clear and clean. <...> We know what must be done and that we would not compromise the fate of the people.

It's not about the territories, it's about the people who were deprived of their history by law. When Zelensky was asked in September 2021, long before the operation, in an interview when the war was still going on in violation of the Minsk agreements, by an interviewer what he thought about the people on the other side of the line of contact. And he said you know, there are people and there are species. And if anybody living in Ukraine feels that he or she is a part of Russian culture my advice to you, for the sake of your children, for the future of your grandkids go to Russia, get out of Ukraine. <...>

The sequence of events which made us absolutely concentrated on achieving the results which would be in favour of the people, which would be saving the people. [There are] those who speak, well, we have to bring Ukraine back into 1991 territory [and that] Russia must get out.

Territories are important only because people live on these territories. And the people who live on the territories which he wants back are descendants of those who for hundreds of years were building Odessa and other cities on those very lands who were building ports, roads, who were founding those lands and who associated with the history of this land. <...>

Just a brief sequence of events:

• In the 2004 elections, the two candidates - one is considered pro-Russian, another is considered pro-American. The pro-Western candidate Mr. Viktor Yushchenko wins.

• At the next presidential elections the candidate who was considered pro-Russian, Mr. Viktor Yanukovych, is winning in a very clean way.

• Then, Mr. Yanukovych in 2013 (maybe even earlier, but in 2013 it culminated) started negotiations with the European Union on getting an association agreement. <...> Our experts started explaining to Ukrainian colleagues that if you go to the association status with the European Union you get zero tariffs on many items. <...> There is no customs border between Ukraine and Russia. So we would have to close this border.

• Then President Viktor Yanukovych asked for postponement of the signature of this association agreement. He said, I want to understand this better, how we can handle it. This was the trigger for that “maidan”. Well prepared, hundreds of tents of the same make, the same colour, the same everything and this maidan culminated in February 2014 when Germany, France, Poland negotiated between the legitimate president and the opposition. And that's how it started.

• Then there were Minsk Agreements. Had they delivered on the Minsk Agreements, they [Ukraine] would still have been in 1991 borders, minus Crimea.

• April 2022, Istanbul. Macron said that Putin tried to impose something on Zelensky. It's another lie by Macron. Because the paper which was initialed by us and Ukrainians, was prepared by Ukrainians. And we accepted this. It was very straightforward: no NATO, no military bases, no military manoeuvres. Instead of NATO, guarantees are provided by “Permanent Five” plus Germany, plus Türkiye, and the list is open. <...>

Had they been cooperative and had they delivered on their own initiative, they [Ukraine] would still have 1991 borders, minus Crimea, minus some part of Donbass.

🇷🇺 President of Russia Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting at a command post of the Kursk group of forces (March 13, 2025)

💬 President Putin: Our immediate task is to rout the enemy, who has become entrenched and continues fighting in the Kursk Region, as soon as possible, to liberate the Kursk Region and regain our positions along the state border.

I would like to ask you to think about creating a security zone on the state border in the future. We should consider doing this.

We regard those who have invaded the Kursk Region, are committing crimes against civilians there and fighting against our Armed Forces, law enforcement and special services as terrorists.

That is how the Prosecutor General’s Office has qualified their activities, and it is under articles on terrorism that the Investigative Committee has initiated proceedings against them.

⚡️ Заявление МИД России об ответных мерах на шестнадцатый «пакет» санкций Евросоюза в отношении России

💬 Одержимый идеей нанесения нашей стране «стратегического поражения», Европейский союз продолжает наращивать односторонние, нелегитимные с точки зрения международного права ограничительные меры в отношении России.

Очередной — 16-й по счету — санкционный «пакет» был утверждён странами-членами Евросоюза 24 февраля — намеренно к годовщине начала специальной военной операции.

В ответ на эти недружественные действия российской стороной существенно расширен список представителей евроинститутов и стран-членов Евросоюза, которым в соответствии с Федеральным законом «О порядке выезда из Российской Федерации и въезда в Российскую Федерацию» от 15 августа 1996 года № 114-ФЗ запрещён въезд на территорию нашего государства.

❗️ Речь идёт о представителях силовых ведомств, государственных и коммерческих организаций стран ЕС, гражданах стран-членов Евросоюза, ответственных за оказание военной помощи Украине, ведущих деятельность, направленную на подрыв территориальной целостности нашей страны и организацию блокады движения российских судов и грузов в Балтийском море; представителях евроструктур и государственных органов стран ЕС, причастных к преследованию российских должностных лиц за «незаконные аресты и вывоз людей с украинских территорий», занимающихся созданием «трибунала» в отношении российского руководства, выступающих за конфискацию российских госактивов или использование прибыли от них в интересах Украины, ответственных за введение санкций против Российской Федерации и пытающихся навредить отношениям России с другими государствами; «отличившихся» своей русофобской риторикой гражданских активистах и представителях научного сообщества; депутатах стран-членов ЕС и Европарламента, голосовавших за антироссийские резолюции и законопроекты.

❓ Вопрос: В Саудовской Аравии Вы обсуждали с переговорщиками в том числе вопрос временного перемирия, что не будет никакого временного перемирия. Зачем они продолжают на этом настаивать?

💬 С.В.Лавров: Они не напирают. Американцы объявили, что обсудили это с украинцами. Ждут нашей реакции.

Президент России В.В.Путин не раз говорил, что перемирие (как показывает история), начиная с 2014 года, объявлялось уже неоднократно. И Минские договорённости, и договорённости, которые потом были разрушены в феврале 2014 года, а также договорённости в Стамбуле — всё это было сопряжено с объявлением перемирия.

❗️ Каждый раз после договорённостей выяснялось, что украинцы нам врали при поддержке своих «партнёров», которые тоже из Европы.

Если европейцы сейчас хотят сделать так, чтобы украинцы ещё и американцев «обвели вокруг пальца», то, думаю, что Администрация Д.Трампа всё прекрасно понимает и во всём разберётся.

Нам нужен устойчивый, постоянный мир, опирающийся на устранение первопричин нынешней ситуации на Украине.

В ночь на 11 марта ВСУ подвергли массированной атаке дронов несколько российских регионов, включая московский регион. По данным Минобороны России, дежурными средствами ПВО были сбиты 343 дрона.

Прекрасно понимаем, почему киевский режим так озверел в эти дни. Терпящий ежедневные ощутимые потери на поле боя неонацистский киевский режим с помощью террористических методов пытается показать свою способность вести переговоры «с позиции силы», но на деле демонстрирует собственное бессилие и по сути – свой конец.

За 10 лет на руках украинских боевиков-нелюдей кровь не менее чем 1700 ребят. А теперь задумайтесь все те, кто регулярно в странах EC и НАТО голосует за помощь киевскому режиму. За что вы голосуете?! Против кого направлены дула ваших орудий и на что идут эти самые десятки, сотни миллионов долларов и евро.

Видим в заявлениях западных официальных лиц, в сообщениях СМИ и в «утечках» информацию о планах Парижа и Лондона направить на территорию Украины некий «европейский миротворческий контингент».

Считаем даже озвучивание таких планов откровенно провокационным шагом, направленным не на урегулирование конфликта, а на поддержание нездоровых и вредных иллюзий у верхушки киевского режима.

Показательно, что Вашингтон дистанцируется от планов Лондона и Парижа разместить какой бы то ни было свой контингент на Украине, зная, к чему это может привести с военной точки зрения.

Для нас абсолютно неприемлемо размещение на Украине подразделений вооружённых сил других государств под любым «флагом», будь то иностранные контингенты, военные базы или некие «миротворческие операции», которые предлагают те, кто слово «миротворчество» и «мир» вообще изъяли из своего лексикона.

Это будет означать вовлечение этих стран в прямой вооружённый конфликт с Российской Федерацией, на которое мы будем реагировать всеми имеющимися средствами.

Наши бывшие партнёры не оставляют попыток незаконно присвоить российские активы, замороженные на территории Евросоюза в рамках незаконных ограничительных мер.

Все заблокированные российские средства и причитающиеся по ним доходы являются собственностью Российской Федерации. Присвоение прибыли от финансовых операций, осуществляемых с использованием наших резервных средств без соответствующего согласия российской стороны, – это воровство.

Подобные действия французов наглядно свидетельствует о том, что они не заинтересованы в долгосрочном урегулировании кризиса вокруг Украины.

Потрясены террористической атакой на пассажирский поезд в пакистанской провинции Белуджистан 11 марта Пострадали невинные мирные граждане.

Решительно осуждаем этот террористический акт, как и любые другие формы терроризма во всех его проявлениях. Варварским действиям боевиков не может быть никакого оправдания. Виновные должны понести справедливое наказание.

Солидарны с Исламабадом перед лицом этой глобальной угрозы. Подтверждаем нашу нацеленность на укрепление конструктивного сотрудничества с Пакистаном в сфере противодействия терроризму на двусторонней основе и в многосторонних форматах.

Let’s begin. Today, we have a planned issue on our agenda – that of restoring Russian-American relations.

We know that the new administration led by President Trump is doing everything to restore at least something of what was practically reduced to nothing, destroyed by the previous US administration.

This process is not easy, if not to say very complicated. Nevertheless, as everyone is well aware, I had a telephone conversation with President Trump, our Foreign Minister had the first contacts with his American counterpart, and Yury Ushakov, Aide to the President of Russia, met with his vis-a-vis. <...>

However, before we begin our work, I would like to say that we have noted today’s appeal by the US President, Mr Trump, to spare the lives of the Ukrainian servicemen, blocked by Russian forces in the Kursk Region incursion zone.

In this context, we make it a point that Ukrainian militants have committed numerous crimes against the civilian population in the incursion zone. These acts, as I have already mentioned, are qualified as terrorism by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation.

❗️ Still, we understand President Trump’s call to be guided by humanitarian considerations in treating these service members. In that regard, I stress that if they lay down their arms and surrender, they will be guaranteed life and dignified treatment as per international law and Russian legislation.

To have the US President’s call effectively implemented, a relevant order is needed by Ukrainian military-political leadership to its armed units to lay down arms and surrender.

🇷🇺 16 марта 2014 года — 1️⃣1️⃣ лет назад — состоялся общекрымский референдум. Жители полуострова в ходе всеобщего голосования высказались за воссоединение с исторической Родиной — Россией.

🗳 Участие граждан в референдуме было добровольным и свободным. «За» вхождение в состав России проголосовало 96,77% населения Крыма при явке 83,1%, в Севастополе — 95,6% при явке 89,5%.

За ходом общекрымского референдума наблюдали 135 международных наблюдателей из 23 стран и 1240 наблюдателей от крымских организаций, референдум освещали 623 журналиста из 169 СМИ.

В тот день жители Крыма самостоятельно, осознанно и свободно сделали выбор будущего для себя и своих детей. Это стало справедливым и долгожданным решением и для крымчан, и для всех граждан нашей страны.

✍️ На основании итогов свободного волеизъявления населения полуострова 18 марта 2014 года Республика Крым заключила международный договор с Россией о вхождении в её состав.

За прошедшие одиннадцать лет Республика Крым и город федерального значения Севастополь полностью интегрировались в политическое, правовое и экономическое пространство России. В регионах создана новая инфраструктура — мост через Керченский пролив, магистральный газопровод «Крым — Кубань», федеральная трасса «Таврида», аэропорт Симферополь, сотни других объектов здравоохранения, образования, социальной и инженерной инфраструктуры.

☝️ На полуострове бережно поддерживается межконфессиональное согласие, учитываются интересы всех национальностей и этносов. Сформирована полноценная крымско-татарская национально-культурная автономия, обеспечено участие её представителей в местных органах власти. Крымско-татарский язык признан государственным наравне с русским и украинским.

Произошедший за эти годы экономический рывок, беспрецедентный рост уровня жизни, развитие инфраструктуры и установившийся на полуострове межконфессиональный мир в очередной раз подтверждают — сделанный крымчанами одиннадцать лет назад выбор был единственно верным.

🗓 11 years ago — on March 18, 2014 — President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, Chairman of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov and Head of Sevastopol Alexey Chalyi signed the Agreement formalising Crimea’s reunification with the Russian Federation.

🗳 This historic moment occurred just two days after the all-Crimean referendum had been held.

96.77% of Crimeans and 95.6% of Sevastopol residents supported reunification with Russia. It was the very embodiment of the right of peoples for self-determination and a true triumph of democracy.

💬 President Putin: In people’s hearts and minds, Crimea has always been an inseparable part of Russia. This firm conviction is based on truth and justice and was passed from generation to generation, over time, under any circumstances (from the Address by the President of the Russian Federation on March 18, 2014).

The ensuing developments, including attempts by the post-coup Ukrainian authorities to punish the peninsula's population, prove that the decision of Crimeans to reunite with Russia was the only way to go. Having made their choice to be with their historical homeland, with Russia, the residents of Crimea avoided the fate of the many Russians and Russian-speakers, did not fall victim to the Russophobic Kiev regime.

Instead, the peninsula and its people have flourished, overcoming decades of neglect and decay under Ukraine, becoming one of the most rapidly developing region worldwide.
