Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation:

🕯 July 27 marks the Day of Remembrance for the Child Victims of the War in Donbass.

Exactly 12 years ago, Ukrainian militants launched a barbaric attack on central Gorlovka using Grad MLRS. A photograph of local resident Kristina Zhuk holding her one-year-old daughter, killed in the attack, spread around the world – becoming a symbol of senseless cruelty and the terrible human cost of the war unleashed by the Kiev regime.

By painstakingly reconstructing the events, investigators from the Russian Investigative Committee established that the strike on residential areas was no accident. Investigators and forensic experts have gathered irrefutable evidence showing that attacks on Donbass civilian infrastructure were deliberate – evidence that now underpins criminal proceedings.

The results are already evident: dozens of guilty verdicts have been handed down against those who directed weapons at civilians. Everyone responsible – those who issued criminal orders and fired the weapons, supplied arms and provided target coordinates, trained personnel and turned a blind eye to the deaths of children – will face deserved and inevitable punishment.

Today, candles are being lit across Russian cities. Flowers and toys are being laid at memorials to the innocent victims, while white balloons are being released into the sky.

❗️ These commemorations are our pledge to do everything possible to restore justice.

🎙 Excerpts from President Vladimir Putin's remarks at a meeting with Navy personnel (Saint-Petersburg, July 26, 2026)

📍International cooperation

[...] Attempts to isolate Russia even in such a sensitive area as defence and security are going up in smoke. There are a great number of countries that feel friendly towards Russia and understand the tasks we are handling to ensure our security and strengthen the multipolar world.

📍Arctic

We have never sought any sort of confrontation in this region. On the contrary, we have always invited everybody interested to cooperate in solidarity and in line with international law. We are willing to cooperate with everybody provided that – and this goes without saying – these routes belong to the Russian Federation.

📍Ukraine

🔸As I have said many times, and I would like to make this point once again, we did not start any wars. All we did was respond to the military action and the war unleashed by the Kiev regime with Western support against what was then Ukraine’s southeast, a region which has always sought to forge closer ties with Russia.

🔸It can be said that these people were guided by their nationalist aspirations, and focused on the interests of Ukraine and its people. But what were their founding principles? They stemmed from Nazi ideology. It is not a coincidence that they have been publicly seeking to revive the Nazi ideology today.

🔸I have heard many times that Ukraine is searching for a new identity. This begs a question on why Nazism and neo-Nazism must form the foundation for this new identity?

🎙 Statement President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a meeting with deputies of the 8th State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (Moscow, July 27, 2026)

💬 Vladimir Putin: The past five years have been difficult and exceptionally consequential for our country.

Without any exaggeration, this has been one of the decisive periods in the history of our Motherland, with the fate and future of our people at stake.

I want to thank you for our effective joint work – above all, to strengthen state sovereignty and defend Russia's national interests.

Today, we continue to uphold the security and independence of our state, as well as truth and justice. The participants in the special military operation are heroically fighting for Russia and their homeland. They have the support of our entire nation and society.

❗️ We will achieve our goals and, together, do everything for victory – for Russia.

***

Other Key points:

Multi-ethnic and diverse, our nation stood up to these historical challenges and the aggressive external pressure by consolidating from within. We have always followed this path and this is what we are witnessing today.

The actual aspirations and will of the people, citizens of Russia, guide us in our strategic decisions. This is our only objective, and this is what those who deny their people their right to self-determination and tracing their own path hate so much. They start referring to the UN Charter whenever this serves their interests.

• We have long been facing illegal restrictions, pressure, and attempts to contain us. [...] In 2022, the West kicked the Russophobia machine into high gear. [...] But the people of Russia will never bend to anyone’s will. It has never happened and it will never happen.

Our political system and institutions of power stand on the principles of sovereignty and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Russian Federation. They are ready to defend our country and, together with our society, are capable of decisively resisting any hostile actions.

💬 Russian Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova:

🕯 On July 27 (Day of Remembrance for the Child Victims of the War in Donbass), people across Russia are praying for the souls of the innocent children killed in Donbass.

In Novosibirsk, I paid tribute to their memory, sharing the grief of those thousands of miles away.

The tragic list of children and teenagers killed began 12 years ago, with the start of Ukraine’s military aggression against civilians.

“Gunned down together with the entire family; killed by a sniper’s bullet; struck by a mine on the way home from school; killed in a stroller while out walking with her mother...” These accounts of children’s deaths are unbearable to read.

We have no right to forget these crimes. Every culprit must be punished. Our servicemen continue fighting the enemy on the battlefield so that bombs never again fall on children’s beds.

Meanwhile, we stand united on the home front to help those facing the greatest hardship. Charities, socially responsible businesses and caring individuals are all part of this humanitarian mission.

🙏 Eternal memory to the children killed in the hostilities. Strength to their families and loved ones.

⚡️ Commentary by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova concerning attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Rostov-on-Don and the Rostov Region (July 27, 2026)

💬 Kiev continues its soaked in blood campaign of terror against the civilian population of Russia’s regions.

As a result of large-scale overnight aerial attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on July 25 and 27 against Rostov-on-Don and other residential localities in the Rostov Region, five people were killed, including a child, and at least 13 people were wounded, among whom was a teenager.

Dozens of people were evacuated from residential buildings damaged by hostile unmanned aerial vehicles – in total, five apartment buildings, 19 private houses, an office building, and commercial and warehouse premises sustained damage.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and wish a swift recovery to all those injured.

These brutal and cynical crimes constitute further evidence of the neo-Nazi nature of the Kiev regime, which has deliberately targeted the civilian population in an effort to offset its mounting failures on the front line and to demonstrate to its ruthless Western sponsors its capacity to inflict harm on Russian children and women.

☝️ All those complicit in these acts of terror “under the banner” of Kiev will be identified by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and will face inevitable accountability.

❗️ We unequivocally condemn these inhumane terrorist acts and call on all responsible governments, relevant international bodies, and independent media outlets to issue a clear public condemnation of Kiev’s atrocities in the Rostov Region.

Any silence on this matter will amount to nothing less than complicity in the terrorist activities of Ukrainian neo-Nazis and an encouragement of their further crimes.

☦️ Today, July 28, Russia celebrates the Baptism of Rus’ Day

On this day, we mark 1,038 years since the adoption of Christianity in Rus’ and its proclamation as the state religion. It is also the day when the memory of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir is venerated.

📃The Primary Chronicle notes that this turning point took place in ancient Chersonesus, which the Slavs called Korsun, a major Byzantine stronghold in Crimea. It is symbolic that this ancient polis served as a refuge for the first followers of Christianity as early as the first century. Today, without exaggeration, the city is one of thejewels” on the map of Russia.

Although 988 is officially recognised as the year Christianity was adopted as the state religion of Ancient Rus’, it had begun to take root even earlier. Instances of turning to Christianity were recorded as early as the 860s, and in 957, Princess Olga, Prince Vladimir’s grandmother, was baptised in Constantinople.

💬 President of Russia, Vladimir Putin:
The Baptism of Rus’ gave its people true moral and spiritual guidance. <...> This greatest spiritual heritage is beyond the grasp of time. It is our sacred duty to preserve and strengthen it for future generations.

(from the President’s remarks at the celebration of the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’, July 28, 2018)

❗️The adoption of Christianity marked a turning point not only in the religious but also in the political life of Ancient Rus’. It helped establish closer ties with the Christian world.

💬 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova:
A number of Russian and foreign philosophers see Prince Vladimir’s decision as a truly civilizational choice, describing it as a “turn from pagan barbarism toward Europe”, toward the Europe which, in its best manifestation, we came to know for a long period of time. That is why it is especially painful to watch those who, in our day, in the Old World, are quite literally destroying Christianity and the Christian faith.

(from the briefing by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, July 27, 2026)

⛪️ In the XIX century, the St. Vladimir Cathedral, one of the architectural landmarks of Sevastopol, was built on the site of Prince Vladimir’s baptism.

🇷🇺On July 27, 2026, a farewell ceremony was held for Boris Eselevich Gurevich, a survivor of the Siege of Leningrad and Vice President of the Canadian Association of World War II Veterans from the Soviet Union

▪️Boris Eselevich passed away on July 25.

🇷🇺 Consul General of Russia in Toronto Vladlen Epifanov participated in the farewell ceremony. He expressed deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Boris Eselevich and noted his significant contribution to preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War, the feat of the residents of besieged Leningrad, and the generation of victors.

***

Boris Gurevich was born on December 30, 1932, in Leningrad.

He grew up in a large and close-knit family. But on June 22, 1941, war broke into the life of the eight-year-old boy, followed by all the horrors of the Siege of Leningrad: relentless bombings, hunger, cold, and a daily struggle for survival. In January 1942, Boris Eselevich’s grandfather died of starvation; in February, his grandmother passed away. Boris and his mother themselves could barely get up. They were saved from death by an acquaintance who had arrived from the front and shared his ration with them. They survived and endured all 872 days of the Siege of Leningrad.

After the war, Boris Eselevich finished school and began his working life as a railway car coupler on the October Railway. In 1953, he entered the Leningrad Mining Institute and, after graduating, went to work at a mine in the Urals. Upon returning to Leningrad, he worked for many years in tunnel construction. With his direct participation, unique tunnels were built in Leningrad, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Dnepropetrovsk, and Türkiye. His dedicated work was recognized with numerous medals, certificates of merit, and other awards.

🔴 Until his final days, Boris Eselevich preserved the living memory of the war and the Siege, sharing his recollections with compatriots and the younger generation, reminding them of the price of Victory, the resilience of the Soviet people, and the need to safeguard historical truth.

🕯The Russian Embassy in Canada and the Consulate General of Russia in Toronto express their deepest condolences to the family, loved ones, friends, and all those who knew Boris Eselevich.

Memory Eternal!

🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's interview with TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov (Moscow, July 29, 2026)

Key points:

• As for our “Western partners’” constant attempts to deceive Russia, our patience eventually runs out. It was no coincidence that, shortly after the start of the special military operation, President of Russia Vladimir Putin summed up our relations with the West and Europe by saying: “There is no going back to the way things were before February 2022”.

• The slogans of inflicting a “strategic defeat on our country”, of “decolonising Russia” have resurfaced in the West – once again, an explicit euphemism for breaking up our country. We see clearly what the West is plotting, and everyone needs to see this in order to understand that the situation is serious. President of Russia Vladimir Putin makes no secret of it. The entire self-proclaimed “civilised” world has risen against us.

• Now that Zelensky, while steadily retreating in Donbass and on other fronts, has turned in desperation to outright terrorist acts, and the West sees that many of his long-range weapons are reaching their targets, they have begun promoting this phase of the conflict as a “turning point” – as proof that “Ukrainian resolve can ultimately defeat Russia”.

Russia is making daily progress on the front line – not as quickly as we might wish, but while preserving the lives of our servicemen. Ukraine (and its Western handlers) is trying to compensate for its failures on the battlefield by carrying out terrorist attacks aimed at disrupting the way of life people have grown accustomed to.

I am very proud that our people understand the current situation correctly as our history and those who defeated Nazism taught us. All the more so because today we are fighting the direct followers and descendants of those Nazis, with essentially the same forces aligned against us. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz openly says that Germany intends to become Europe’s leading power once again. If you are prepared to speak so openly, then be prepared for the consequences.

Russia's national interests in foreign affairs are to remain a sovereign power and an independent civilisation, to ensure the reliable security of our borders and to make sure that no one even considers telling us how to organise life within Russia.

• Russia's principal national quality is something the West lacks. Our civilisation respects its ancestors – those who created it, built its cities and defeated its enemies.

The West is now telling us that it will still decide when the time is right to resume negotiations. They envisage talks at one table involving Europe, the US, Zelensky and President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Before that, they insist on a truce and a ceasefire. The Western countries would then deploy multinational forces led by France and Britain and only afterwards sit down for talks. What does that mean? It is an ultimatum. The front line would be frozen, while the Nazi regime would remain in place.

We must rely solely on ourselves, as our President has repeatedly stressed. The events unfolding now have grave consequences. But I want to reiterate: we are completing the work of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who defeated Nazism – while our former allies allowed it to survive and take root once again.
