🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on Ukraine’s case in the International Criminal Court

💬 An announcement made on April 25 to the effect that the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor’s Office will join the Joint Investigation Group comprised of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine and created under the auspices of Eurojust has come to our attention.

Everyone is aware of how such entities operate. It is safe to assume that the work of their brainchild will be similarly biased and one-sided.

☝️ If anyone doubts that the ICC is a body that is fulfilling political orders and has nothing to do with independent justice, this new “creative” format has made it perfectly clear.

We would like to ask the ICC Prosecutor’s Office and the countries that are now so concerned about justice in Ukraine why, for eight years, they ignored the suffering of Donbass residents?

📅 #OTD in 1945, the #RedArmy liberated the prisoners of the women's concentration camp #Ravensbrück.

The prisoners, who survived inhuman medical experiments & other atrocities of the SS, greeted the Soviet liberators with joy.

🟥 On the night of April 30 to May 1, 1945, the Victory Banner, a symbol of the Soviet Union’s triumph in the fight against Nazi Germany, was raised over a defeated Berlin.

Red Army soldiers Mikhail Yegorov, Meliton Kantaria, and Alexei Berest hoisted the scarlet flag – the assault flag of the 150th Infantry Division of the 3rd Shock Army of the 1st Belarusian Front – on the Reichstag’s roof.

Today the Banner of Victory is kept at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The blood-red canvas remains the main symbol of the Great Patriotic War, and a source of pride for all those nations of the USSR that contributed to our common Victory.

On May 2️⃣, 1945, the First Belorussian Front, under the command of Marshal Georgy Zhukov together with the First Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal Ivan Konev, seized the Nazi German capital of Berlin. Most of Berlin’s garrison troops understood that any resistance was futile and laid down their arms and surrendered. Artillery General Weidling, along with three German generals, crossed the front line at 6 am on May 2 and also surrendered. Shortly thereafter, the General signed an order for the surrender of Berlin. By evening, the forces of the 8th Guards Army troops had cleared the central part of the city.

❗️With the Berlin operation concluded, the Nazi Germany's days were literally numbered. The Victory was ever so close.

◼️ May 2 marks eight years since the tragedy in Odessa. On this day in 2014, Ukraine’s Nazi thugs massacred those who had stood up against the Maidan coup d'etat, Kiev’s new policies, and unhinged nationalistic aggression. People were corralled into Odessa's House of Trade Unions and burned alive. Others were finished off as they tried to escape.

🕯 Forty-eight people were burned alive, died from carbon monoxide poisoning, or fell to their death from the upper floors of the House of Trade Unions, which was set on fire by the nationalists.

🔹 This barbaric act of egregious cynicism and brutality sent shockwaves around the world. Yet the “civilised” West kept silent in an uncivilised manner. Perpetrators roam freely. Moreover, Ukraine’s law enforcement persecuted those who managed to survive (!) what the fascist thugs had done.

❗️ We will never forget this heinous crime and will work to identify and bring to justice those responsible.

❗️The Russian Federation's Joint Coordination Headquarters for Humanitarian Response continues to record numerous cases of nationalists using civilian infrastructure for military purposes, as well as using civilians as "human shield":

🔹in Barvenkovo, Kharkov Region, nationalists have equipped a stronghold in the building of the Regional Psychiatric Hospital No 2 and forcibly detain civilians in the basement;

🔹in Dnepr (schools No. 2 and 28 and boarding school No. 2), Nikolaev (boarding school for deaf children), Kramatorsk (schools No. 9 and 6) and Slavyansk (school No. 14), the Ukrainian Armed Forces and fighters of the territorial defence battalions have equipped firing positions and deployed armoured vehicles, artillery and MLRS.

▫️This fact is clear evidence of the continuing inhumane attitude of the Kiev authorities towards their own people.

Eight years ago Kiev regime committed one of its ugliest and most heinous crimes - Odessa massacre. One of the goals of Russia’s special military operation is ensuring accountability for the culprits of this crime as well as other atrocities of post-Maidan Ukraine.

A year ago Russian Mission to the UN organized a Security Council Arria-Formula meeting with participation of those who can share their personal experience on what happened on 2 May 2014 in Odessa. I encourage all those interested to watch it today!
