🎙 Excerpt from an interview with FM Sergey Lavrov for the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov programme on Rossiya 1 TV channel (March 14, 2024)
Key points:
💬Russia's President Vladimir Putin's Munich Speech included his analysis of the developments in relations between Moscow and the West, and the policy that the Westerners had initially opted for with regard to the new Russia. Some people [on the West] took it seriously. They were a minority. The majority ignored it, shrugged it off, or was outraged.
• After August 2008 [events] and before the Crimean Spring, our relations with the West had become increasingly open and, therefore, tense. Neither the EU, nor NATO wasn't willing to draw conclusions.
• In early 2022 the Ukrainian authorities got the green light to carry out an operation to mop up Donbass. Since the beginning of February 2022, the bombing attacks have intensified 10- to 12-fold.
• Even when there were still false hopes that the Minsk agreements would be implemented, when the Kiev regime was violating them by shelling Donbass, about 2 mln people left there for Russia. And even more did so after the special military operation was launched.
• It is impossible to fake, teach or learn using Stanislavsky’s system, the joy displayed by the people welcoming our soldiers. They have finally seen us come.
• The Russian MFA has representative offices in Lugansk and Donetsk. They will be established in the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions later. I want to go there and talk to the staff at our offices, to see what they need.
• What is happening now with the West is a frenzy. The worse the situation at the front, the more furious the West is talking – we don’t have the right to allow Ukraine to lose and Russia to win.
• We are saying that if you are ready to conduct honest talks taking into account our real concerns, Russia’s lawful interests about which we talked to you for many years but you won’t listen. If you return to what we had called for, let’s talk. But so far we don’t see any evidence

🇷🇺 #OnThisDay, 🔟 years ago, day to day, the all-Crimean Referendum was held.
On March 16, 2014, the people of the peninsula made an independent and conscious choice, voting in favour of forever being with Russia. To this day it remains one of the most striking and sincere examples of a true triumph of the will of the people and democracy.
🗳 At the referendum, 96.77% of Crimeans voted for reunification with Russia, the turnout was 83.1%. In Sevastopol, the relevant figures were 95.6% and 89.5%, respectively.
The voting was monitored by 135 international observers from 23 countries and 1,240 representatives of local organisations. All noted that the referendum was held without violations and in full conformity with international standards and democratic procedure.
Based on the results of the free expression of will by Crimeans, a treaty was signed on the incorporation of the two new regions into the Russian Federation – the Republic of Crimea and the City of Federal Significance, Sevastopol.
💬 President Putin: In people’s hearts and minds, Crimea has always been an inseparable part of Russia. This firm conviction is based on truth and justice and was passed from generation to generation (from the Address by the President of the Russian Federation on March 18, 2014).
Since the reunification, Crimea has undergone fundamental changes, becoming one of the most dynamically developing regions in the country and the entire continent. The atmosphere of interreligious accord has been maintained on the peninsula, and the rights of all of its ethnic groups are observed without exception.
✅ The processes that have occurred during the last ten years, steady socio-economic development and enduring peace in the multi-ethnic Crimea confirm that the people of this region were correct when making the historic choice in favour of reunification with Russia.

🎙 Foreign Ministry statement regarding the Kiev regime’s terrorist actions during the presidential election in the Russian Federation
❌ The neo-Nazi Kiev regime continues to display its criminal and terrorist identity for the whole world to see.
Over the past two days, the intense shelling of the Belgorod Region has resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to 19 others.
On March 16, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used a UAV to drop a bomb on a polling station in Blagoveshchenka, Zaporozhye Region.
Over the last week, the neo-Nazis in Kiev have systematically subjected residential neighbourhoods in Donetsk to artillery shelling and drone attacks, targeting kindergartens, schools, and healthcare facilities. Attacks were also carried out on border districts of the Kursk Region and in Rozhdestvenka, Belgorod Region.
Sabotage and reconnaissance units staffed by Ukrainian fighters have stepped up their attempts to penetrate the Russian territory, but the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have effectively repelled these attacks.
☝️ It is obvious that it was the presidential election currently underway in Russia which prompted the corrupt Kiev regime to step up its terrorist activity in order to show its Western patrons its proactive position and ask for more financial aid and lethal weapons.
Through the unrelenting shelling of civilian infrastructure in our country, the Ukrainian Armed Forces seek to disrupt the election and prevent civilians from expressing their will, intimidate people and deny them the opportunity to cast their ballots.
❗️ The Foreign Ministry firmly condemns the brutal crimes committed by the Kiev regime, which deliberately targets civilians and civilian infrastructure.
We will make sure that all attempts to use terrorist tactics to influence the election are documented, thoroughly investigated, and that their perpetrators face severe and inevitable punishment.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s address on the 10th anniversary of the Crimean Spring (Moscow, March 16, 2024)
🔟 years ago – on March 16, 2014 – the people of Crimea participated in a referendum, making an independent and informed choice to determine their own future by reuniting with Russia, thus exercising their right to self-determination in full compliance with the UN Charter and the Declaration on Principles of International Law.
The ensuing developments showed this was the only way to go, which made it possible to defend the lives, honour and dignity of the Crimean people from the encroachments of the Russophobic Kiev regime.
We well remember that troubling and terrible spring, when the bloody coup brought neo-Nazis to power in Kiev. We also remember the notorious “friendship trains” that were packed off by the ideological followers of the Banderites to quell the protests of Crimean residents, who chose not to betray the values, culture, history and centuries-old traditions of their ancestors. The ensuing anti-Crimea sanctions, bombings of power lines, and the transport, energy and water blockades reinforced Crimean residents’ belief in the fact that they had made the right choice.
🇷🇺 The question of who Crimea and Sevastopol belong to is closed. The peninsula is an integral part of the Russian Federation.
Over the past ten years, we have managed to overcome numerous problems that were the legacy of Ukraine. Large projects which contribute to reviving and renewing Crimea. <...>
☝️ Notably, the rights of all citizens without exception, regardless of their ethnic background or language preferences, are strictly respected in Crimea. Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar are state languages in the republic, and their status is protected by law.
With a clear outlook for what lies ahead, the people of Crimea can look to the future with confidence and optimism.

🗓 On March 18, 2014, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, Chairman of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov and Head of Sevastopol Alexey Chaly signed the Agreement formalising Crimea’s reunification with the Russian Federation.
🗳 This historic moment occurred just two days after the all-Crimean referendum had been held. 96.77% of Crimeans and 95.6% of Sevastopol residents supported reunification with Russia. It was the embodiment of the right of peoples for self-determination and a true triumph of democracy.
💬 President Putin: In people’s hearts and minds, Crimea has always been an inseparable part of Russia. This firm conviction is based on truth and justice and was passed from generation to generation, over time, under any circumstances (from the Address by the President of the Russian Federation on March 18, 2014).
The ensuing developments, including attempts by the post-coup Ukrainian authorities to punish the peninsula's population, prove that the decision of Crimeans to reunite with Russia was the only way to go. Having made their choice to be with their historical homeland, with Russia, the residents of Crimea avoided the fate of the many Russians and Russian-speakers, did not fall victim to the Russophobic Kiev regime.
Instead, the peninsula and its people flourished, overcoming decades of neglect and decay under Ukraine, becoming one of the most rapidly developing region worldwide.
💬 Sergey Lavrov: The question of who Crimea and Sevastopol belong to is closed. The peninsula is an integral part of the Russian Federation (from the address of Russia's Foreign Minister on the 10th anniversary of the Crimean Spring, March 16, 2014).

🎙 Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the Kiev regime’s terrorist attacks during the presidential elections in Russia
💬 On March 17, the Kiev regime launched yet another missile attack on Belgorod in Russia, as millions of Russian citizens across the country and abroad went to the polls in the presidential elections to implement their constitutional right to choose the head of state. A 16-year-old girl was killed as a result of this brutal terrorist assault. The Ukrainian Armed Forces target residential houses and crowded public places in Russian cities. As it was reported before, the Russian investigative authorities record all the crimes committed by the neo-Nazi Kiev regime. The masterminds and perpetrators of terrorist attacks will face a well-deserved and inevitable punishment.
A helicopter-crippling drone attack on an airfield in Tiraspol, Transnistria, was obviously an attempt to rock things out of balance in that region and saw panic among people voting in the Russian presidential elections. But it failed to discourage 220,000 Russian citizens living in Transnistria from going to the polls.
The Moldovan authorities’ statements of non-involvement in the Ukrainian strike look ludicrous. Everyone is aware that the despairing and agonising Kiev regime is suffering defeat after defeat on the battlefield and using terrorist methods as a last resort.
We are grateful to all Russian citizens for resisting intimidation and casting their ballot for the presidential candidate of their choice.

🎉 Today, our country celebrates the 🔟th Anniversary of the historic reunification of Crimea with Russia.
The past decade has seen Crimea change dramatically, as Russia has done tremendous work to improve the region’s economic, investment, cultural and tourist appeal. Today, Crimea is one of the fastest growing regions not only in Russia, but in the entire continent.
💬 Sergey Lavrov: Large projects which contribute to reviving and renewing Crimea, helping it integrate into the political, legal and socioeconomic space of Russia and improve the quality of life, have been implemented and some are underway. (from the Russian Foreign Minister’s video address on the 10th anniversary of the Crimean Spring, Moscow, March 16, 2024).
Over the past 10 years:
✅ Major transport infrastructure facilities have been developed:
• Crimean Bridge, the longest bridge in Europe, and a symbol of Crimea’s reunification with Russia.
• Simferopol International Airport, one of the most comfortable, well-equipped, and up-to-date airports in Russia.
• The Tavrida highway, connecting cities from Kerch to Sevastopol.
✅ Social facilities upgraded or built anew:
• More than 7 million square metres of housing made available.
• Several multipurpose medical centres opened, including the Semashko Republican Clinical Hospital.
• Artek, the largest international children’s centre in the world, was renovated.
• Three major sports facilities built, including the Water Sports Palace in Simferopol.
• Ten schools have been built and 160 kindergartens have opened.
🤝 Much has been done to harmonise ethnic and religious relations in the peninsula. An atmosphere of inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony is now maintained in Crimea. Linguistic equality and diversity are respected.
Today, Crimea has everything to ensure its further effective long-term development, and Crimeans can look to the future with confidence and optimism.

🚀 March 18 marks one of the most important dates in the history of space exploration. It was on this day 5️⃣9️⃣ years ago, in 1963, that Soviet cosmonaut Alexey Leonov performed the first ever spacewalk. Having stepped out of the "Voskhod-2" spacecraft, piloted by Pavel Belyaev, into near-Earth space, Leonov added another great achievement to the hall of fame of Soviet/Russian cosmonautics.
The spacewalk itself lasted 23 minutes & 41 seconds, 12 minutes & 9 seconds of which were spent in free fall, floating in space.
This is how Alexey Leonov described his feelings, speaking from the podium of Moscow Mausoleum. Together with his crewmate Pavel Belyaev, they were hailed as heroes by the whole Moscow city.
🎖 Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Leonov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal for the successful flight, along with the courage & heroism shown during it.
Today, spacewalk is a routine (still a highlight though) of the otherwise busy ISS schedule: scientific research, repair work, installation of new equipment on the station's exterior, launch of small satellites and much more. All this was made possible thanks to the colossal work and joint efforts of many Soviet specialists and enterprises, as well as the personal courage of our cosmonauts.

As I stepped out from the airlock, I felt a powerful stream of light and heat, reminiscent of electric welding. Above me was a black sky and bright, unblinking stars. The sun appeared to me as a glowing disc of fire.

⚡️ Roskomnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media):
During the presidential election, Roskomnadzor’s Public Communications Network Monitoring and Management Centre (PCNMMC) had to adopt countermeasures against 497 DDoS attacks at Russia’s ICT infrastructure.
During the election, Roskomnadzor specialists protected 920 important Russian resources. The main vector of DDoS attacks was aimed at the resources of the Central Election Commission and at Moscow’s remote online voting. Attacks were conducted at all election infrastructure resources at the same time. The most powerful attack was 87 Gb/S, the longest lasted for 40 hours 12 minutes.
❗️ Germany, the UK, the US, Finland and Lithuania were the main sources of the attacks.
Active countermeasures by the PCNMMC neutralised the impact of the attacks on Russian infrastructure. The attacks did not cause any mishaps or loss of access to Russian resources. All attacks were rebuffed.
Five phishing websites imitating electoral resources were also blocked during these days.
