🗓 On November 22, 1941, the first supply lorries drove across the ice of Ladoga Lake into besieged Leningrad. The 30 km-long route became known as the Road of Life — the only transport route linking the northern capital with the mainland during the Siege.

Over 2.5 million people, including 400,000 children, still remained in Leningrad on September 8, 1941, when the Nazis besieged it and thousands of people were dying of hunger daily before the Road of Life became operational.

🌾 During the first relief trip 60 of the legendary GAZ-AA “polutorka” lorries delivered 70 tonnes of flour to the people of Leningrad. Despite extremely bad weather conditions and constant Nazi shelling and bombing, the participants in the operation ensured the uninterrupted functioning of the transport route, making up to 3 trips per day to deliver the food to the residents of Leningrad.

🕯 To give you the scale of the operation: 300,000+ people were involved in the servicing and using the ice route. Nobody knows the exact number of people who gave their lives on the ice of Lake Ladoga. They were drivers, antiaircraft gunners, repairmen & traffic regulators.

💬 Driver of the 804th auto base on the Road of Life, Leonid Barkovich:
Each of us wanted to avoid an enemy shell but everyone knew that death alone would prevent us from doing our duty and carrying out orders.

Overall, more than 1.6 million tonnes of cargo were delivered to the besieged city and 1.376 million people were evacuated by the end of the Road of Life’s operation in the spring of 1943. Combat hardware produced by Leningrad plants were carried in the opposite direction. This included KV tanks that were critical for the front and were manufactured only in Leningrad at that time.

Owing to the incredible efforts of drivers, freight handlers, engineers and auto mechanics, tens of thousands of people in Leningrad were saved from starvation. The delivered relief allowed them to survive the most horrible days of winter in the besieged city.

🎙 Briefing by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik on the crimes committed by the Kiev regime.

📍 Moscow, November 21, 2023

Key talking points:

• The Maidan became a trigger that led the country to decades of bloodshed and degradation. The acting president was illegitimate and he ordered gangs of radicals to kill the residents of Donbass that did not agree with the coup d'etat.

❗️ We are convinced: were the Donetsk People's Republic and the Lugansk People's Republic not recognized by Russia on February 21, 2022, and the agreements on mutual assistance were not signed, the residents of Donbass could've faced the plight of the victims we are now witnessing in the Middle East.

• We can state the facts of the Ukrainian army hitting ambulances, medical staff, and the purpose is to deprive people of getting emergency medical assistance.

• The use of terrorist methods by the Ukrainian armed forces has become a common practice.

• The Kiev regime is striking technogenically hazardous and radiation-hazardous sites. They try to use the technogenical danger in order to aggravate the situation.

☢️ The issue of attempts to create a radiation catastrophe for the Kiev regime is a separate item, as the Ukrainian armed forces and other special services of Ukraine have made repeated attempts to strike three nuclear facilities at once run by Russia. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant was the most frequently hit by Ukrainian armed formations.

• Latest data confirms that time for the purposeful strikes by Ukrainian military on social institutions on Russian territory is chosen deliberately to target more civilians, given that high-precision weapons are used.

☝️ We investigate all of these cases in order to follow the prosecutors for these crimes. <...> We will finally move to organizing a specialized criminal investigations against the political leadership of Ukraine for their terrorist activities and violating humanitarian law, as well as those crimes mentioned before.

🎙 Russia's President Vladimir Putin took part in the extraordinary G20 summit, held via videoconference.

💬 Vladimir Putin: The state of affairs in the global economy and the world at large require collective, consensus-based decisions that reflect the views of the overwhelming majority of the international community, including both developed and developing countries. <...>

The enormous stress on the global economy is a direct consequence of the ill-considered macroeconomic policies of some countries. <...>

Unlawful trade restrictions and the climate agenda pursued by some countries in order to improve their own competitiveness, continue to have a negative impact. <...>

🇷🇺 Russia advocates restoring the spirit of open and mutually beneficial international economic cooperation based on the UN Charter and the principles of collegial and mutually respectful joint work.

It is important to achieve an effective optimisation of the global economic governance system, in particular, to restart the WTO in its entirety, including its arbitration function.

We need to enhance the role of developing economies in international financial institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank, and to use those bodies’ resources to promote the development of countries and regions that really need it, and not for opportunistic political purposes.

🤝 We are ready to work together to address these urgent issues at the G20 and other international institutions, including BRICS, an association that is gaining weight and influence – this much is obvious, especially considering its ongoing expansion.

🕯 We mourn the untimely death of Boris Maksudov, correspondent of the Rossiya-24 television channel.

This is an irreparable loss for the entire journalistic community in Russia. The memory of him as a talented professional and a bright creative personality will forever remain in our hearts.

It was thanks to his selfless work that the world could see the truth about what was happening on the line of contact and about the terrorist methods used by the criminal Kiev regime against civilians, including journalists.

We express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

🎙 President of Russia Vladimir Putin took part in a Plenary Session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) in Minsk.

💬 President Putin: The Belorusian chairmanship and the team of all states taking part in this session have conducted active work throughout the year. This work facilitated the consolidation of our allied ties in the CSTO on the principles of respect, consideration of each other’s interests and support.

In this way, the CSTO member-countries in effect promoted the CSTO’s key role as a regional defensive structure responsible for the maintenance of peace and stability in the vast Eurasian space.

☝️ Importantly, this year the CSTO has also developed its contacts with our natural partners, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (#SCO) and the #CIS.

I would like to make a special mention of our joint efforts to improve the collective rapid deployment forces, aviation and the CSTO peacekeeping forces. A number of measures have been taken to maintain combat readiness, enhance the command and control system and provide more training for military personnel.

We have consistently promoted cooperation between our security services and law enforcement bodies. Notably, the CSTO is continuing its Operation Mercenary aimed at preventing the recruitment of citizens of our countries and blocking the channels of their exit for participation in international terrorist groups.

We implemented together a package of measures on countering extremism, cross-border crime, illegal migration and drug trafficking.

The CSTO Coordination Council on Biological Security has launched its work. It has focused on preventing threats linked with the development and use of biological weapons and ensuring radiation, chemical and medical protection.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on the killing of Russian journalist Boris Maksudov

💬 On November 22, the Kiev regime gunmen deliberately attacked a group of Russian journalists with a drone carrying a fragmentation shell. The journalists were working on a report about Ukrainian shelling of civilian targets in the Zaporozhye Region. The next day, military correspondent Boris Maksudov succumbed to his wounds.

🕯 First and foremost, we express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Boris Maksudov and those of all media professionals who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The criminal Kiev regime continues to consider Russian journalists and war correspondents as priority targets, and is hunting them down. Despicably, it targets unarmed correspondents, photographers, and cameramen. The regime employs blatantly terrorist methods to eliminate them, without fearing any criticism from its Western curators or biased human rights organisations. They flaunt their actions.

❗️ The brutal killing of Boris Maksudov is yet another heinous crime committed by the neo-Nazi Kiev regime, which bears responsibility for the deaths of many thousands of innocent civilians. We are confident that this crime will not go unpunished, and the culprits will not escape fair and lawful retribution.

🗓 On November 24, 1944, the Baltic Strategic Offensive concluded. It resulted in the rout of Germans in the Baltic countries and the liberation of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania from the Nazis.

Through their grip on the Baltics, the Nazis controlled shipments in the Baltic Sea, protected East Prussia and used the territories of the Baltic states as one of their main supply depots.

🕯 The Nazis destroyed over 500,000 civilians and 600,000 POWs in punitive operations and executions during the occupation of the Baltic republics. Baltic collaborationists took direct part in the Nazi policy of exterminating the Jews. In Latvia alone, 95 percent of Jews – about 70,000 Latvian Jews and approximately 20,000 Jews brought to Latvia from other countries, were killed in 1941-1944.

🌟 Despite the German command’s plan to contain Soviet troops for more than six months, the Soviet soldiers completed its large-scale offensive in 71 days. The success of the Red Army allowed it not only to free considerable territories of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, but also to create prerequisites for ousting Nazi invaders from East Prussia.

Apart from Soviet troops, the 16th Lithuanian rifle division, the 8th Estonian rifle corps and the 130th Latvian rifle corps played an active role in liberating their homelands.

💬 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (from the weekly briefing on November 17, 2021):
It is regrettable that attempts are being made to obliterate the memory of heroism of the Soviet Army, which fought side by side with Latvians, Lithuanians and Estonians to liberate the Baltic states from Nazism, and that monuments to the liberators are being dismantled and demolished because they allegedly constitute elements of communist propaganda.

🎖 During the Baltic Offensive, 112 Soviet officers and soldiers were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union, and three servicemen received second Gold Star medals. Orders and medals were conferred on over 332,000 military.

✈️ In late November 1942, the USSR and France signed an agreement on forming the legendary Normandie-Niemen air squadron. It became a symbol of Soviet-French camaraderie and the most famous foreign military unit fighting on Soviet territory during WWII.

• By the time the squadron was formed, two thirds of France had been occupied. However, small Resistance groups wanted to continue fighting Hitler. In March 1942 they suggested sending a group of French pilots and air mechanics to the USSR to participate in combat activities.

• The Normandie-Niemen air squadron was made up of the best pilots of the 1st Fighter Group in the Free French Air Force, deployed in Lebanon at the time. The formation was initially called Normandie in honour of the French northwestern province occupied by the Germans. The squadron added Niemen to its name after a successful operation on the Nieman river during the liberation of Lithuania.

• It included 14 French pilots, 58 French mechanics and 17 Soviet mechanics. The Soviet government provided the squadron with Yakovlev-1 (Yak-1) and later Yak-3 and Yak-9 fighter planes which were subsequently donated to France.

• The French aces were part of the Soviet Air Force in 1943-1945, and fought in many landmark battles from the Kursk Bulge to Koenigsberg. In total, the squadron’s pilots made over 5,000 sorties and shot down 273 German planes. Four of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

• Upon returning home, the formation continued to exist bearing its former name. Unfortunately, today the fighters of the Normandie-Niemen air regiment are cynically used on NATO's eastern flank in the Baltic States, where they are practising tasks to "contain" Russia. In our country, however, we remember the heroism of the French aces and appreciate their contribution to our common victory.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the Artificial Intelligence Journey (AI Journey) 2023 international conference on AI and machine learning titled The Generative AI Revolution: New Opportunities.

💬 In the past few years Russia’s economic and social sectors have increased the use of AI solutions by 50 percent.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund is actively involving co-investors, putting its own money into domestic software companies, and helping them develop global cooperation and enter foreign markets, and today especially in Asia and the Middle East.

<...>

☝️ We will continue to strive for Russia to become one of the world’s most conducive jurisdictions for the development of artificial intelligence and bold exploration of the technological solutions that everyone needs.

Alongside legislative measures, voluntary consent of market participants regarding key rules of creating breakthrough technologies is of immense importance.

👉 I would like to highlight the special role of the National Code of Ethics in the sphere of artificial intelligence. It has been signed by domestic companies and organisations, as well as by participants from 16 countries worldwide. I believe complementing this document with a declaration on the responsible development of large language and generative models would be the right thing to do.

Russia’s experience can be instrumental in shaping international ethical standards in the field of artificial intelligence. We should strive for balanced and justified legal regulation that serves the interests of all, rather than select countries. I propose thoroughly discussing these issues during Russia's chairmanship in BRICS next year.

I suggest considering granting our partners from friendly countries access to Russian large language and generative models.

🌐 I am absolutely convinced that the technological world of the future must be multipolar, and we must build it together on the basis of trust and mutually beneficial cooperation.

✍️ President Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants and guests of the Primakov Readings International Forum.

✉️ This international expert forum, named after an outstanding statesman and diplomat, Academician Yevgeny Primakov, has rightfully received wide recognition. During constructive and openminded discussions, its participants not only thoroughly analyse today’s key international issues, but also consider long-term trends in developments at the regional and global levels, based on a system-wide, scientific approach and objective facts.

The theme of this year’s forum – Postglobalisation Horizons – is very relevant. It is clear that the model of globalisation, which was formed largely by Western states, naturally, in their own interests, has outlived its usefulness and is now in deep crisis.

❗️ A new, fairer and more democratic system of international relations is emerging, meeting the needs of the world majority.

However, a certain group of countries, used to dominating the world, will go to any length to maintain their waning influence, practicing outright blackmail and forceful pressure, replacing the system of international law with a kind of “rules-based order.” This destabilising line has provoked both the crisis around Ukraine and the tragic escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In general, considering the current extremely difficult, turbulent international situation, the participants in the Primakov Readings have something to think about, to discuss and to argue about.

🕯 On November 29, 1941, Soviet partisan Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya was executed by Nazi invaders. The young partisan became the first woman to be awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously) during the Great Patriotic War. She was only 18 years old when she was killed.

Zoya volunteered for the front immediately after having graduated from school. In October 1941, in the heat of the Battle of Moscow, she was enlisted as a private in reconnaissance and sabotage military unit No 9903.

Zoya’s group operated near Volokolamsk, mining roads and destroying enemy wire lines. During a combat mission in the village of Petrishchevo, the young woman was captured by the Nazis.

Despite brutal torture, Zoya did not betray either her comrades or the location of the partisans. Desperate to get information, the enraged fascists decided to publicly hang her in one of the villages occupied by the Nazis.

💬 Zoya’s famous last words were: “Comrades, I’m not afraid to die! It’s a blessing to die for my people.”

👉 Zoya’s courageous feat became a symbol of perseverance during the Great Patriotic War, inspiring hundreds of thousands of her peers to resist the enemy.

The heroine’s younger brother, Alexander Kosmodemyansky, joined the front at 17, after the death of his sister. He gained fame for his exploits during the assault on Koenigsberg and was fatally wounded in battle. Like his sister, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin addressed, via videoconference, the plenary session of the World Russian People’s Council. The key topic of the forum, dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the organisation’s establishment, is the Present and Future of the Russian World.

💬 Our fight for sovereignty and justice is, without exaggeration, one of national liberation, because we are upholding the security and well-being of our people, and our supreme historical right to be Russia – a strong independent power, a civilisation state.

It is our country, it is the Russian world that has blocked the way of those who aspired to world domination and exceptionalism, as it has happened many times in history.

We are now fighting not just for Russia's freedom but for the freedom of the whole world. We can frankly say that the dictatorship of one hegemon is becoming decrepit. We see it, and everyone sees it now. <...> This is now clear to the global majority.

☝️ I would like to stress this: without a sovereign and strong Russia, no lasting and stable international system is possible.

We know the threat we are opposing. Russophobia and other forms of racism and neo-Nazism have almost become the official ideology of Western ruling elites. They are directed not only against ethnic Russians, but against all groups living in Russia

The West has no need for such a large and multi-ethnic country as Russia as a matter of principle. Our diversity and unity of cultures, traditions, languages, and ethnicities simply do not fit into the logic of Western racists and colonisers, into their cruel plans for total depersonalisation, separation, suppression, and exploitation.

👉 They want to dismember and plunder Russia. If they cannot do it by force, they sow discord.

❗️We view any outside interference or provocations to incite ethnic or religious conflict as acts of aggression against our country, and an attempt to once again wield terrorism and extremism as a weapon against us, and we will respond accordingly.
