🗓 On October 9, Russia marks the Day of Victory over the Nazis in the Battle of the Caucasus, one of the longest and bloodiest series of operations during the Great Patriotic War.
A bridge between Europe and the Middle East, the strategic importance of the Caucasus region further increased after the discovery of vast oil reserves there. After Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic fell into the hands of German invaders, the Kuban and Transcaucasia became the main suppliers of grain and mineral resources for the USSR.
🥇 Despite the tremendous onslaught of the enemy during the initial phase of the Battle (July 25 - December 31, 1942), the Soviet soldiers and officers heroically held their defense. After launching a counteroffensive, the Red Army forced the Germans to retreat, recaptured territories previously occupied by the Nazi invaders, including North Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Rostov Oblast, Stavropol Krai, and other regions.
During the 1943 offensive in the North Caucasus, the Red Army s inflicted enormous damage on the enemy: over 275,000 soldiers and officers were killed, more than 6,000 were taken prisoner, while 890 tanks, over 2,000 airplanes, 2,127 guns and over 7,000 vehicles were damaged or destroyed.
Hitler's plans to cut off the USSR from its major economic bases in the south of the country and most importantly, to seize the oil fields in the Caucasus, were thwarted. With the victory at Stalingrad and the Battle of the Caucasus the Soviet Union's triumphant march commenced, leading to the liberation of our Motherland from the Nazi invaders.
🎖 All the peoples of our vast country fought selflessly on the Caucasian front and their heroism was highly appreciated. More than 870,000 veterans of those military operations were decorated with the medal For the Defence of the Caucasus, established on January 25, 1943. The Hero of the Soviet Union title was conferred on 138 fighters.

As a result of an abrupt escalation in the area affected by the Palestine-Israeli conflict, the number of victims on both sides has already exceeded 1,400 people, including civilians. Thousands of Israelis and Palestinians have been wounded.
We express deepest condolences to the families and friends of all those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.
❗️ The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation advises Russian citizens against visiting Israel and the Palestinian territories. Those who are currently in Israel or the Palestinian territories are advised to remain extremely vigilant and maintain contact with representatives of the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Russian Federation.

❗️ #DebunkingMyths spread by the EU leadership
Myth: Russia is offering 1 million tonnes of grain to African countries in a parody of generosity. What cynicism and contempt for African countries, when we know that the Black Sea agreement has so far delivered more than 30 million tonnes of exports, mainly to the most vulnerable countries. And that the solidarity routes, alternative routes developed by the EU and with the EU, have already enabled 40 million tonnes of grain to be exported. 1 million tonnes offered — as if it were a gift. This is absolutely appalling cynicism. On the other hand, there are those who are really fighting to come to the aid of the most fragile and vulnerable populations.
Fact: This statement by Charles Michel has no basis in reality. Ukrainian grain has mostly been delivered and continues to be delivered to the EU.
The President of the European Council’s statement represents not only a textbook case of crude EU propaganda but also a fundamentally new chapter in the history of European public opinion.
However, things that Charles Michel has held back are even more interesting.
👉 Let's take a closer look:
• The EU member states are the main beneficiaries of the Black Sea Initiative since about 40 percent of the Ukrainian agricultural products exported via this route went their way. The share of recipients from the countries that are most in need is less than 3 percent.
• Over nearly 18 months, the EU has failed to establish food exports via the “solidarity corridors” to third countries, if such a goal really existed in the first place.
• The EU needs to offset the damage to its own food security caused by unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus and ill-conceived policies in the macroeconomic, energy, and food sectors.
• The EU intentionally overstates the potential of Ukrainian agricultural output to ensure global food security (Ukraine's share of the global wheat market is no more than 5 percent).

🎙 Statement by Russia's President Vladimir Putin at the the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week (#REW2023) international forum.

🔸 The Russian fuel and energy sector is seeing core changes. They relate to all areas of the industry, including the production and processing of energy commodities, service and logistics, as well as interaction with our foreign partners.
🔸 Maximising added value and advancing the deep processing of oil and gas is the strategic and systemic objective of the Russian fuel and energy sector. Ambitious oil and gas-to-chemicals projects, including projects with state participation and state support, are in the planning and implementation stages.
🔸 Last week, fuel was loaded into the Rooppur power plant in Bangladesh. The fourth power unit at the El Dabaa NPP in Egypt is being built ahead of schedule. We are helping Egypt embark on the path to sovereign energy development.
🔸 Russia’s RusHydro has been involved in designing and building more than 350 facilities in 54 countries. Today, the company supplies its technological solutions to 17 countries, including countries in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America, boosting technology transfer and providing engineering support for the entire service life of its plants, which is 50–70 years.
🔸Russia continues to export more gas to the People’s Republic of China. In 2025, the Power of Siberia gas pipeline will reach its design capacity of 38 billion cubic metres of gas annually. However, it already transports substantial gas volumes exceeding contract obligations.
🔸 As before, Russia will make a significant contribution to balancing the global energy market, developing partnerships and cooperation ties with those countries that want it and are interested in this.

⚡️ According to incoming information, on October 12, the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on the Syrian Arab Republic, damaging the runways at Damascus and Aleppo international airports. The airports suspended operations.
These actions by Israel are a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and of the basic principles of international law. Important civilian infrastructure facilities like airports have again been chosen as targets for an attack on Syria This posed a real threat to innocent people and international air traffic security.

With tensions running high around the Palestine-Israeli conflict, the use of force like this is fraught with very dangerous consequences, as it could provoke armed escalation across the entire region.

• We will propose discussions on ways to more effectively align integration processes in the CIS space, in particular, to strengthen the organisation’s economic contacts with the EAEU and security ties with the CSTO and the SCO.

Sobibor, which was created exclusively to exterminate Jews and prisoners of war, operated from May 15, 1942, to October 15, 1943.
Up to six echelons carrying up to 2,000 people each, including adults, the elderly and children, arrived at the camp every day. Brutal death expected all of them.
One of the most efficient human extermination systems developed by the Nazis was put in place at the camp. The gas chamber, which the prisoners called "the baths", could take up to 800 people.
🕯 Over the period of the camp’s existence, the Nazis brutally murdered up to 250,000 people, according to different data.
Of the 550 prisoners who were at the camp during the uprising, more than a hundred refused to take part in it, hoping that the Nazis would show them mercy. All of these prisoners were exterminated by the Nazi on the following day.
In the next few weeks after the escape, the Nazis staged a real hunt for the fugitives.
On hearing the news of the uprising in Sobibor, SS-Reichsfuehrer Heinrich Himmler became enraged and gave the order to liquidate the camp. The Nazis ploughed the ground on the camp site and planted cabbage with potatoes there, thus not only trying to hide their crimes but also destroy the memory of the prisoners’ heroic feat. But their efforts were in vain.
The history of Sobibor became part of the charges at the Nuremberg trials and the stories told by witnesses and participants in the uprising formed the basis of a number of books and several feature films.

💬 We unequivocally condemn the acts of extreme brutality, killings and the horrifying scale of violence. Any killings and violence against peaceful civilians, both Israeli and Palestinian citizens, is inadmissible.
What happened on October 7 on Israeli territory is unacceptable. Israel by all means has the right to protect its own citizens. We also reiterate the right of Israel to ensure its security.
However, there are two inseparable dimensions of the unfolding tragedy, and we can’t highlight one and ignore the other. Indiscriminate shelling of residential areas in Gaza, cutting this territory from water and electricity, its blockade which brings to our minds in particular the memories of the siege of Leningrad during the Second World War are also unacceptable.
Israel’s actions of collective punishment of Gaza citizens as well as its demands to evacuate more than 1 mln civilians in 24 hours and concentrate them in a de-facto ghetto in the south of the sector are also unacceptable and can lead to irreversible catastrophic consequences, regionally and globally.

We call for an immediate ceasefire and the prevention of further escalation of the conflict. We are convinced that the Security Council must act to put an end to the bloodshed and restart peace negotiations with a view to establishing a Palestinian State as it was supposed to do so long ago.
To this end, we are circulating a draft resolution of the UN Security Council which calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected humanitarian ceasefire and for an unimpeded provision of humanitarian assistance, as well as condemns all violence and all acts of terrorism. This draft is open for cosponsorship of all UN Member-States.
