🎖 September 9 marks the Day of Remembrance of Russian Soldiers who Fell during the Defence of Sevastopol and in the Crimean War of 1853-1856. Today, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives 170 years ago while defending the city of Russian naval glory.

The Crimean War started as a conflict between Russia and Turkey. In an effort to preserve its influence in the Balkan region, the Ottoman Empire requested assistance from the United Kingdom and France. Thus, yet another Russo-Turkish war escalated into a large-scale confrontation between Russia and a coalition of European states.

The main events during the conflict unfolded in 1854-1855 on the south-western Crimean coast where #Sevastopol, Russia’s main naval base, was located. The city’s heroic defence lasted 349 days, from September 25, 1854 until September 9, 1855.

The port’s defenders displayed genuine bravery while repelling regular enemy assaults and making daring raids. Eduard Totleben, a brilliant Russian military engineer famous for his fortifications, was gravely wounded in the besieged city. Famed admiral Pavel Nakhimov died a hero’s death during the defence of Sevastopol.

When the enemy eventually entered Sevastopol, they found nothing but ruins. All surviving Russian ships were scuttled and remaining strongholds blown up. On March 30, 1856, the warring parties signed the Peace Treaty of Paris, which returned Sevastopol and other Crimean cities to Russia in exchange for the territories seized by Russian forces in Türkiye.

🕯 The Russian Army lost over 522,000 officers and soldiers during the Crimean War, including 102,000 during the defence of Sevastopol.

Red Army soldiers repeated the heroic feat of the city’s defenders less than 100 years later during the second defence of Sevastopol in 1941-1942. “Legendary Sevastopol, unassailable for enemies” retained its combat glory through the ages and remains a living monument to the valour and bravery of its defenders.

🇷🇺 Russia's position at the #UNGA78 regarding food security 🌾

☝️ We note the need to uphold the central role of the Rome-based international organizations — the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the United Nations World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development — in coordinating international efforts to strengthen global food security, eliminate hunger, improve nutrition, and ensure sustainable agriculture and rural development.

We are actively engaged in the follow-up to the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit to transform food systems. We assume that the transformation of international food systems should take into account national priorities and specific circumstances.

We oppose Western countries' attempts to hold Russia responsible for the global food crisis.

👉 In our contacts with friendly states and within various international fora, we endeavour to explain the real consequences and impact of the unilateral restrictions imposed against us.

❗️ We consider it crucial to prevent the politicization of international cooperation in the agrifood sector and the provision of humanitarian assistance, as well as the instrumentalization of the anti-famine agenda for commercial, economic and geopolitical purposes.

👉 We pay particular attention to ensuring stable and uninterrupted food supply chains and correcting distortions in the fertilizer market, primarily for the benefit of those in need in developing countries.

⚡️ Russia's position at the seventy-eighth session of the UN General Assembly:

Arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation

📃 We have consistently advocated for strengthening the existing and developing, through consensus, new treaty regimes in the field of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

The UN and its multilateral disarmament mechanism should play a central role in this process.

We are working to increase the efficiency and consistency of the work of its key elements – the First Committee of the UNGA, the UN Disarmament Commission and the Conference on Disarmament.

🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova

💬 Today, editor-in-chief of the Russian News federal news and information portal Yekaterina Nadolskaya was, in an offensive way, denied access to the news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Moreover, the French attempted to break her phone. The reason for such discrimination, as plainly spelled out by a French press service employee, was that the journalist represented a Russia media outlet.

I wonder if the Western media, worried about freedom of speech and concerned about rights (for example, Politico Europe) will again fail to notice yet another racist outburst by Macron’s team against the Russian media? Will they again be astounded by our response to the lawlessness against the Russian media committed by the authorities in EU countries?

We cannot and will not submissively ignore the fact that the vanguard of the Western pseudo democracies, this time represented by France, have displayed yet another instance of racial discrimination and violation of the basic principles of democracy. In addition to the real witch hunt unleashed by Paris in its own media space, by actually annihilating the presence of Russian broadcasters in the French public domain and creating unbearable conditions for Russian correspondents, now they do not hesitate to export such neglect of pluralism and media rights outside the area of the “collective West,” that is, to the countries and regions France has been lecturing for decades about democracy and freedom of speech.

This policy drenched with falsehood, arrogance and a superiority complex, will ultimately play against its pursuers. We regard the incident as a flagrant manifestation of racism and aggressive nationalism since it is in essence an act of discrimination on the grounds of national origin.

❗️ We demand that the Elysee Palace offer an apology to the media representative.

At present, representatives of 11 French media are accredited in Russia. They all have a free access to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press events. By the way, no one prevented the AFP correspondent and cameraman from attending today’s press conference by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov following the G20 Summit.
Regional & local elections held successfully
Donetsk & Lugansk Republics, Kherson & Zaporozhye regions voted for the first time after expressing free will to reunite with their true Homeland in 2022.
The results once again testify to absolute support for 🇷🇺 government policy & leadership.

📰 FM Sergey Lavrov's article for the Rossiyskaya Gazeta on the 50th anniversary of the Chilean military coup (September 11, 2023)

Read in full

5️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on September 11, 1973, a significant event took place in Chile that became an immense shock to the global community. The Popular Unity government was overthrown in a bloody coup d'etat and the military dictatorship of the General Pinochet-led junta was established.

🕯 The tragedy of Chile became our tragedy, and the history of Chile became a page in our history as well.

Even before Salvador Allende took office, Washington had pursued a policy seeking to overthrow him, using an entire arsenal of political blackmail and pressure methods, making every effort to destabilise the internal situation in the country. Americans made extensive use of the tools which, in their concentrated form, were later dubbed as colour revolutions.

📄 Now we can find a significant amount of publicly available materials that expose the unsavoury role of the US Department of State and the CIA, as well as other American departments, in those events. Back in September 1974, Seymour Hersh, a well-known US investigative journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner, was among the first to reveal the subversive activities of the White House towards Chile.

This truly Machiavellian modus operandi allowed those who orchestrated the coup in the South American country to achieve their goal. Given the successful ‘test-run,’ this package of destructive actions became a sort of template that Washington and its satellites are still putting to use in relation to sovereign governments across the globe.

🇷🇺🇨🇱 Russia-Chile diplomatic relations were restored immediately following the collapse of the Pinochet regime in March 1990; they have consistently developed since then.

🤝 I am confident that the traditions established by Salvador Allende and continued by his true followers will grow stronger for the benefit of our nations.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to organisers and participants in the International Anti-Fascist Forum-2023

💬 Symbolically, the motto of your meeting is Remembering the Past and Thinking about the Future. This year, we celebrate the milestone anniversaries of several key events in the Great Patriotic War, including the rout of German forces in the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk and the lifting of the siege of Leningrad. These momentous events were a prelude to the liberation of the peoples of the former USSR and Europe from the “plague of brown shirts.”

Regrettably, today’s world has again run into the consequences of unlearned past lessons:

• Certain states have glorified Nazi collaborators for decades and actually legalised cultural and language segregation.

• A mean war is being waged against Soviet memorial heritage, with the graves of liberator soldiers being desecrated.

• Hatred towards everything related to Russia is encouraged. This has culminated in a hybrid war unleashed by the collective West against Russia in the context of the special military operation aimed at protecting the people of Donbass from the Ukrainian neo-Nazis.

👉 Under these conditions, consolidation of all sober-minded forces is needed as never before to counteract the rewriting of history and the spread of the ideology of intolerance.

I am confident that your forum will make a noticeable contribution to this work.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin’s address at the Plenary Session of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (September 12, 2023)

💬 In these conditions the world sees the expanding space for actual business cooperation between states that do not yield to external pressure but pursue their own national interests. We are witnessing a new emerging model of relationships and integration – and not by Western patterns, for the elite, for the chosen ‘golden billion,’ but for the entire humanity.

🤝 I expect our trade with the APR countries and economic relations in general to further expand, because Russia, our Far East, is open to strengthening trade and cooperation ties, and the potential of such cooperation simply cannot be overestimated.

We have come up with special tax, administrative and customs preferences in the Far East in order to promote the development of industrial sites and high-tech production facilities and to create new jobs, and we have taken on the construction of infrastructure and bringing utilities to industrial sites.

🚢 Transport projects are important as a means of support for business initiatives and in general for the economy of the Arctic and the Far East and for local residents there. It is necessary to expand the existing logistics routes and open new corridors for cargo operations.

Development of the Northern Sea Route has special priority among these projects. Thirty-four million tonnes of cargo were shipped using the route last year. In the next few years, the cargo traffic on this global transport corridor will only grow

Thanks to the initiative of private investors, we are building the Pacific Railway and a new port on the Sea of Okhotsk, which will allow us to utilise the resources of Yakutia and the northern regions in the Khabarovsk Territory, and to secure direct access to Asia-Pacific markets.

❗️ The Far East is Russia’s strategic priority for the entire 21st century, and we will stick to this.

🇷🇺🇰🇵 President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un held talks at the Vostochny Space Launch Centre.

Following the talks with participation of the countries’ delegations, the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting.

💬 Vladimir Putin: Mr Chairman,

I am delighted to see you again and to welcome you to Russia. This time we are meeting at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. <...>

The People’s Democratic Republic of Korea has recently celebrated the 75th Anniversary of its founding, and we established diplomatic relations 75 years ago. I would like to remind you that our country was the first to recognise the sovereignty and independence of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

This year we mark 70 years since the end of the war for independence and the Korean people’s victory in that war. It is a landmark date because our country also helped our friends in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to fight for their independence.

Of course, we need to talk about our economic cooperation, humanitarian issues and the situation in the region.

There are many issues we will discuss. I would like to say that I am glad to see you. Thank for accepting our invitation to come to Russia.

Welcome.

🎙 President Vladimir Putin’s address at the Plenary Session of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (September 12, 2023)

From the QA session:

The historical memory of the nations with which we were friendly, cooperated and helped in their development has been preserved. It will not be difficult to restore our relations based on the new principles, because people in these countries want this. I am referring to Laos, where we see many friends, the Asia-Pacific region as a whole and Africa.

The main point is that we have never acted as colonisers anywhere. Our cooperation has always been based on equality or a desire to provide help and support. The countries that are trying to compete with us, including now, had a completely different policy.

***

I find it difficult to say what to expect from a new President [of the US], whoever it may be. It is unlikely, though, that any crucial change will take place, because the current authorities have conditioned American society to be anti-Russia in nature and spirit.

***

Whenever Russia raised its head and emerged as a real geopolitical competitor, and I am talking about competition here and nothing else, Russia instantly came up against someone’s containment policies. By the same token, the West is seeking to contain China.

This is not just about China. There is also India, as well as Indonesia. New centres of power will emerge, and in their efforts to contain these processes certain Western countries, led by the US, will do nothing but hurt themselves.

***

That in recent years we have indeed reached an unprecedented level in our relations [with China]. This applies to our interactions in all their aspects.

But here is an interesting fact: We are not creating any military alliance or trying to use our friendship against anyone. Our friendship is designed to serve our people. This is the way for us to move forward.
