BRICS: Towards a Just World Order
Key points:
💬 Tectonic shifts are taking place in the world today. <...> We are witnessing the emergence of a more just multipolar world order. New centers of economic growth & of global decision-making on important political issues in Eurasia, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa & Latin America are guided primarily by their own interests & assign paramount importance to national sovereignty.
🇷🇺 Russia continues to work towards further democratization of international life, building an architecture of inter-State relations that would be based on the values of equal & indivisible security, and cultural & civilisational diversity, and would provide equal opportunities for development for all members of the international community with no one left behind.
• Russia has consistently stood for strengthening the position of the African continent in a multipolar world order. We will further support our African friends in their aspirations to play an increasingly significant role in resolving the key problems of our time.
• #BRICS is a symbol of true multipolarity and an example of honest inter-State communication. Within its framework, States with different political systems, distinctive value platforms & independent foreign policies effectively cooperate in various spheres.
📈 The population of the BRICS countries is over 40 percent & the area of their territories exceeds a quarter of the world's land. According to experts' forecasts, in 2023 the five countries will account for about 31.5 percent of global GDP (at purchasing power parity), while the share of the G7 has fallen to 30 percent in this indicator.
• It is natural that our grouping has many like-minded countries around the world. BRICS is seen as a positive force that can strengthen the solidarity of the Global South & Global East & become one of the pillars of a new, more just polycentric world order.

🎙️ Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the anniversary of Russian journalist Darya Dugina’s murder by Ukrainian special services
💬 The life of talented young journalist Darya Dugina was tragically cut short on August 20, 2022. The investigative authorities of the Russian Federation have established that the brutal murder of the Russian journalist was organised and executed by the Ukrainian special services. The Kiev regime, under the guidance of its Western curators, is ready to commit any bloody crimes, including the organisation and execution of terrorist attacks to eliminate objectionable representatives of the media community. This once again confirms the criminal essence of Vladimir Zelensky’s dictatorship.
The cynical killing of Darya Dugina was followed by a series of attempted murders and assassinations of Russian journalists and public opinion leaders committed by Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
<…>
A year after the tragic death of Darya Dugina we have not heard a single word from relevant organisations and human rights institutions about this and many other deliberate atrocities committed against those media representatives whose point of view does not coincide with the one approved by the collective West (an insipid comment by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay expressing regret about the death of Rostislav Zhuravlev does not count).
Hypocrisy, dividing journalists into the “good” and “bad”, “ours” and “theirs” is what prevails in the activities of those organisations.
❗️ We would like to once again draw the attention of international human rights organisations and the judiciary to the fact that the rights of journalists are being flagrantly violated and terrorist methods are being used against them.

🕯 Today is the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, when we recall the victims of terrorist attacks and commit to protect the rights of survivors of such crimes.
Terrorism poses a serious threat to international peace and security, from which no country is safe. Every year, thousands of people suffer and die at the hands of terrorists.
❗️ Today, the Kiev regime openly uses terrorist methods. Ukrainian nationalists attack Russian civilian infrastructure located thousands of kilometres away from the conflict zone, and use terror tactics against Russian journalists. NATO countries support these barbaric actions, continuing to supply weapons to Kiev and train soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
☝️ It is important to remember that terrorism is a crime that cannot be justified regardless of when, why and by whom the terrorist act was committed.
🌐 Russia stands for improving the effectiveness and coordination of multilateral cooperation in countering terrorism, including within the framework of the UN. Our country regularly proposes initiatives to the international community, aimed at cutting ideological and financial support for terrorists and preventing terrorist recruitment.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the University International Sports Festival
💬 I offer my greetings to the organisers, participants and guests of the University International Sports Festival. The fact that Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Urals located right in the centre of Eurasia at the crossroads of a diverse of mix of traditions and culture, hosts these competitions is a very powerful symbol.
Russia has consistently advocated honest, open and politics-free dialogue with other countries. In this context, promoting sports ties serves as an important tool for reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding between our nations. We have many like-minded people who share this belief, as evidenced in all clarity by the participation of our partner states from #BRICS, the #SCO and #CIS in the upcoming sports festival.
I am certain that the atmosphere of healthy competition which reigns supreme over this festival will not only help promote an active lifestyle, but will also help further consolidate the bonds of friendship and mutual sympathy among the young people of our countries.
I wish all of you more victories and achievements in sports, memorable impressions, and to get to know interesting people.

🇷🇺 On August 22, Russia celebrates National Flag Day, established by Presidential Executive Order On National Flag Day of the Russian Federation dated August 20, 1994.
#OTD, we pay tribute to the official state symbol of Russia, which, along with its emblem and anthem, marks its sovereignty and independence, and reaffirms the continuity of many generations of the country’s multiethnic people.
⚓️ The Russian tricolor is more than three centuries old. Peter the Great is considered the creator: in 1705, he issued an order according to which they should raise a white-blue-and-red flag “on all merchant ships.” However, it was only given official national flag status in 1896, on the eve of the coronation of Nicholas II.
On December 25, 2000, the Federal Constitutional Law On the State Flag of the Russian Federation was adopted, under which the state flag of Russia was a rectangular panel of three equal horizontal stripes: the top one was white, the middle one was blue and the bottom one was red.
⚪️🔵🔴 It is believed that white represents peace and dignity; blue, loyalty and honesty; and red, courage and valour.
Today, the tricolor has firmly become part of our lives as an integral element of Russian statehood, a symbol of the unity of the people, their devotion to the Fatherland, and their readiness to defend Russia’s national interests.

🎥 President Putin's video address on National Flag Day (August 22, 2023)
💬 Vladimir Putin: Compatriots!
Today we celebrate our National Flag Day.
Our state banners, like our country, have a thousand-year history. Old Russian armies raised flags with the image of Christ Not Made by Hand over their regiments. In the 19th century, the black, yellow and white flag of the Russian Empire was flown on the country’s official buildings. In the 20th century, our country lived with the red flag for over 70 years, and it was under this flag that the Great Patriotic War was won.
All of Russia’s historical flags and symbols warrant respect from its citizens, public activists, and representatives of the authorities because they reflect the continuity of the development of our nation and statehood.
But we certainly have special feelings for the white, blue and red flag; it is our official national flag, which was instituted as such by Peter the Great.
🇷🇺 The tricolour was hoisted over our country again on August 22, 1991. We have overcome many hardships and ordeals with this flag flying overhead, but in essence we have restored the sovereignty of our country.
Russia is a one thousand year old country and civilization. Our national flag is a symbol of our unity. I believe that the national flag will always inspire us to move forward, to victory, and to assert the glory of Russia.
Happy National Flag Day, friends!

Key points:
🔹 Our cooperation is based on the principles of equality, partner support, and respect for each other's interests. And that is what lies at the core of our Association's forward-looking strategic course – the course that reflects the aspirations of most of the world’s community, the so-called global majority.
🔹 Over the last decade, mutual investments among the BRICS countries have increased six-fold. Their overall investments in global economy have doubled, and their total exports have reached 20 percent of the world exports.
🔹 The objective and irreversible process of the de-dollarization of our economic ties is gaining pace. We are working to fine-tune effective mechanisms for mutual settlements and monetary and financial control.
🔹 Russia stands for greater cooperation within BRICS as regards reliable and uninterrupted supplies of energy and food resources to the world markets. We are consistently increasing supplies of fuel, agricultural products and fertilizers to countries in the Global South, making a significant contribution to strengthening global food and energy security, addressing acute humanitarian issues and fighting hunger and poverty in countries in need.
🔹 Our country has the capacity to replace Ukrainian grain, both commercially and as free aid to needy countries, especially since our harvest is again expected to be perfect this year. As a first step, we have decided to gratuitously provide six African countries with 25‑50 thousand tonnes of grain each with free delivery of these cargoes.
🔹 I am confident that the BRICS Business Forum and Business Council will continue their creative work aimed at expanding contacts between the business circles of the Group of Five countries and jointly implementing new mutually beneficial projects.
