A world-renowned French writer and volunteer soldier once said that to be human is to feel responsible for what happens around you. Another great thinker, also a volunteer soldier, wrote: “There is profound meaning in the fact that it is the strongest life that most willingly sacrifices itself.” These two quotes perhaps best capture the essence of Ukrainian volunteers — those who chose to stand and fight rather than flee.

There is no greater happiness than defending what is dear to you and taking your country’s fate into your own hands. To be someone who takes charge of their own life and stands at the center of the most decisive events for their nation.

From the very beginning, and throughout the years, Azov battalion has been a focal point of the volunteer spirit in Ukraine. And it remains so to this day. No modern weapon terrifies the occupiers as much as disciplined, highly trained, and motivated fighters who have consciously chosen to trade the comfort of their homes and the peace of rear cities for the steel storms of battle in defense of their homeland. Those who, following the call of their hearts, stood up for Ukraine’s independence in 2014 and again in 2022 — and who today have become true professionals in the art of war.

I salute every Ukrainian volunteer soldier and thank you for the choice you made, the responsibility you accepted, and the steadfastness you show despite all the hardships along this difficult path.

This is what Victory Day looked like for Ukrainians in 1945. Instead of fascists and Hitler, our grandparents got the Soviets and Stalin. And today, Ukrainians are facing their direct descendants — the rashists and Putin.

Two facts to remember about the World War II in Europe: 1) more Ukrainian civilians were killed than russians; 2) more Ukrainian soldiers died fighting Nazis than Americans, British, and Frenchmen - taken together. Today, Ukraine continues to pay the price fighting russian fascism.

The EU will allocate €1.9 billion in military support for Ukraine — using profits from frozen russian assets.

€1 billion will be used to purchase weapons directly from Ukrainian manufacturers under the “Danish model.”

The remaining funds will go toward artillery, ammunition, and air defense.

Imagine having a russian backed spy in German parliament. This is not far from reality.
