Head of Venezuelan counterintelligence detained on charges of treason

Suspicion of treason led to the arrest of the former head of counterintelligence and honor guard of the Venezuelan president, Major General Javier Marcano Tabata, Atlantic TV Gambia reported on January 10.

It is reported that the general, who had previously been dismissed from his post, is suspected of passing information to US intelligence that enabled the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, as well as of disabling the country's air defense protocols.

On January 9, Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, dismissed Major General Javier Marcano Tabata, who was in charge of the presidential guard and military counterintelligence.
