🇳🇪⚡- While initial reports suggest the coup attempt has likely failed, its consequences will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the junta in Niamey.

Reports indicate that elements of Niger's main counterterrorism forces in Tillaberi, Tera, and Dosso abandoned their posts and joined the uprising, citing Niamey's poor strategic war planning and mounting casualties.

All three regions are major hubs of activity of the Islamic State and its branches. The withdrawal of junta forces from these areas will create significant security gaps, allowing militant groups to expand their influence and operations.

🇳🇪⚡- Gunfire has erupted for the third time in Niamey, Niger.

🇸🇩🇮🇱⚡- Hamdan 'Hemedti' Dagalo, Sudan's warlord and Commander-in-Chief of the Rapid Support Forces, has maintained high-level contact with Israel throughout the Sudanese civil war, as per Africa Intelligence.

Hemedti's brothers, Abdul Rahim and Algoney, visited Israel from May 2025 - February 2026, meeting senior Israeli foreign ministry and intelligence officials.

🇳🇪⚡- Niger's counter terrorism forces from a fourth region, Tillaberi, have arrived in Niamey.

It's currently unknown if they are in Niamey to join the ongoing coup attempt, or to protect the junta from falling.

Note, Tillaberi, west Niger, is yet another Islamic State dominant region.

🇸🇩🇪🇹🇸🇦⚡- Hamdan Dagalo's visit to Addis Ababa yesterday is part of an effort to withdraw the 5,000 Rapid Support Forces from the Saudi Arabia - Ansarullah border.

Dagalo's visit follows a recent UN Security Council meeting on Sudan regarding a possible no-fly zone, which was opposed by Khartoum. During the UNSC, Saudi Arabia voiced strong criticism of the RSF, to which Dagalo has allegedly decided to respond. Saudi Arabia's border security with Yemen's Ansarullah depends almost entirely on the Rapid Support Forces, of which there are approximately 5,000 members.

RSF are demanding an official apology from Riyadh, or risk losing RSF's security against the al-Houthi forces.

🇳🇪🇩🇿⚡- Algeria, ironically, becomes the first country to condemn the ongoing coup attempt in Niamey, Niger.

🇳🇪⚡️- Elements belonging to the anti-junta coup in Niamey have reportedly seized an air base as well as the Parachutist Bataillon's barracks near the capital.

The Parachutist Bataillon's barracks are located nearby the Air Base 101, a stronghold of the Africa Corps in Niger.

🇳🇪⚡️- Niger's Gendarmerie Nationale is seemingly helping with certain arrests in Niamey but has not taken part in the firefights. It is unclear whether they are loyal to the regime as of now. There are still no proofs of the Africa Corps taking a stance in the ongoing coup attempt.

🇳🇪⚡️- "A group of soldiers in breach of the military regulation has undertaken to seize some of their comrades in the barracks of base 101 in Niamey and to shoot at some sensitive sites in the city of Niamey. The prompt reaction of the forces of defense and security allowed us to circumscribe this movement of humor and gradually take over the control of these sites." - General Salifou Mody.

🇳🇪⚡️- Despite Salifou Mody's statement, the situation in Niamey is not resolved according to local reports.

🇳🇪🇷🇺⚡- Russia's reliability as a strategic partner is once again being called into question.

Sources on the ground in Niamey claim that Russia's Africa Corps have taken no visible action to support its junta allies during the ongoing attempted coup and may have even opened negotiations with elements involved in the current uprising.
