"This appointment reflects the member states’ commitment to completing the Alliance’s leadership structure, which will strengthen its ability to carry out its defensive tasks in support of international maritime security, protect freedom of navigation, secure maritime lanes and commercial shipping, and support global efforts in the maritime domain in accordance with international laws and conventions.

China has never publicly acknowledged the collision, but has added the names of the two individuals to its veterans' affairs ministry as killed in the line of duty, and vaguely mentioned a mission in the South China Sea. At the time of the collision last year, the Philippines had said that two Chinese personnel were killed, and another was missing.

Last June, the State Department said student visa applicants with private social media accounts will be required to make their accounts public for screening. Social media vetting is already required for diplomatic and official visas; temporary workers and trainees; exchange visitors; international cultural exchange participants; religious workers; and witnesses, informants, and victims.

He claimed that migrants use children as emotional blackmail to avoid being turned away or harmed. He later said that migrants, or invaders, should be shot regardless of the situation, as it will discourage migration overall and prevent women and children from being collateral damage.
