๐บ๐ธโก๏ธ- Trump Media will sell faster access to Trumpโs Truth Social posts, giving investors a head start on market-moving announcements, per WSJ.
๐บ๐ธโก๏ธ- Trump Media Group has announced Truth API will be available starting today, and will be available to "institutional customers".
Their announcement letter posted earlier last month says that "Truth API is designed for organizations most impacted by the cost of a delay in information. This includes high-frequency and algorithmic trading firms that require a low-latency, machine-readable feed rather than manual tracking.", explicitly acknowledging the primary customer of this service is companies trying to trade on his announcements.
There is no price listed, and interested organizations are asked to contact them directly via email for more information. This means Trump Media Group will conduct human review to decide who will get access to the service, and that the API will not be generally available. Many media outlets state the price is $100,000/month.
The API service they are selling does not allow users to access information before it is publicly available (at least to the public's knowledge); it only allows you to load already public posts faster than someone manually refreshing the page. Assuming they aren't giving early access to the posts, even getting these posts a couple of seconds earlier than non-paying customers through a faster connection point is a huge advantage if you were trying to trade oil futures based on Trumpโs posts related to the US-Iran ceasefire.
Even if the publicly accessible website and API show posts from the same database, if the API has access to the main database where posts are uploaded, your browser retrieves the posts from regional servers closer to your location; just the time between the post being uploaded to the main server and the post being propagated to regional server hosts could be a matter of several seconds' advantage.
It should be noted that these โreal time apiโsโ (official and unofficial) exist for every single social media site and are already used by trading firms for this purpose, although none of them allow the post author to collect the money from the apiโs like in this case, and the post author couldn't hand-pick who had access. There are also already unofficial, free, and publicly available api's to do this yourself that you can set up easily (https://github.com/w2rc/truthbrush) without paying 1.2 million per year, except without the โspecial accessโ that the official API would presumably give you.
