Iranian outlet Tasnim News has confirmed that traffic through the tunnel has been suspended in both directions. The disruption poses a major logistical nightmare for Bandar Abbas, as the tunnel lies along Route 71, the principal connection between the port city and central Iran.

With the tunnel out of service, traffic is therefore being forced onto the far longer Route 91 via Kahnuj or Route 94 via Heydarabad. Establishing temporary bypass routes near the tunnel cannot be considered feasible given the local terrain.
