In the article, allegations of Chavez's grooming began with girls aged 8 or 9. One of the women, Debra Rojas, claims Chavez initiated physical contact with her by groping her breasts at age 12. Another account details the story of his sister-in-law, Dolores Huerta, where he drove her out to a secluded grapefield and proceeded to rape her in the car. Huerta was 36 years old at the time, and according to biological tests and her own account, she fell pregnant, and gave birth to two of Chavez's children from this encounter, and another where she claims she felt “forced” to have intercourse with Chavez.

In both cases, the individuals kept this matter secret until now, fearing it might undermine Chavez’s goals and legacy.
