The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Friday that the organization called on the Israeli authorities to cancel its order for Gaza residents to move from north to south.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement: “The United Nations (UN staff) in Palestine calls on the Israeli government to cancel its declaration requiring the immediate transfer of UN agencies and Palestinians to the southern Gaza Strip without any guarantee of their safety or guarantee of their return.This will cause a humanitarian tragedy that can and must be prevented," the United Nations noted.

Israel asked the United Nations to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip within 24 hours. Israeli army liaison officers informed the team leaders of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Gaza that all Gazans north of the Gaza Valley must move to the south of the Strip within the next 24 hours according to the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric.
