The seizure occurred in the Atlantic – Rerum Novarum tracked its entry into the Atlantic waters on December 19. The vessel had four escort ships at the time.

ADLER is operated by the sanctioned M Leasing LLC, a logistical firm tied to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ship routinely transfers weapons to Russian allies in Africa.

ADLER was forced to anchor off the coast of Sweden yesterday morning after suffering a likely engine failure. Swedish media reports the crew of the Russian vessel are cooperating with the Swedish Coast Guard.
