Gantz has proposed to join the Likud-bloc in the Knesset to secure the coalition against possible resignations from Smotrich's Tkuma Party. Smotrich has threatened to resign if Likud agrees to a hostage-ceasefire deal.

Gantz also supports Yuli Edelstein's ultra-Orthodox conscription law, which is opposed by Ben-Gvir's Otzma Yehudit Party.

Gantz, in return, expects Likud to hold a general election next spring, in 2026.
