Kolkata folks—what’s the dirtiest public place you’ve seen in the city?

Hey everyone,
I’m from Kolkata, and I’ve been seeing how trash piles up in certain areas like it’s just part of the scenery now. I want to do something about it—but first, I need your help.

If you’ve come across any public places in the city that are really dirty—parks, sidewalks, market corners, lakefronts, whatever—drop the location or describe it. I’m planning to visit these places myself, talk to locals, take photos, and try to bring more eyes to what we’re ignoring every day.

It’s a small start, but I believe change starts from there.

Where should I go first?

Thoughts on Melar Gaan?

I just think after so long I’ve heard something that has stayed with me - in Bangla.

Smart Technology

Even though I'm an electronics engineer, I had stopped doing anything myself for close to 25 years because that's what is the norm in rank and file industry. You just get the job done on command when you are senior.

Since engineering remains my first love, I had to do something again at 60+, after my retirement, so I decided to make my home a smart home. First I had to guard against random power cuts, so I provided a compact backup source for my WiFi router. Then I decided to install a range extender to cover the remotest corners.

Then I inserted 4 port intelligent switch modules in each of my switch boards, connected them and configured them one by one. Next I installed 16 Amp smart plugs for all heavy appliances - ACs, geysers, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave.

Then I mounted an AI assisted smart camera over my apartment entrance and as a last step for this phase, installed half a dozen 64 million colour smart bulbs at specific locations. The final job was to set up Alexa and Google Nest devices for voice commands.

This stuff isn't something you forget. I used to code in Assembly and C when it was still pretty exotic and I was also a hardware integrator and automation guy.
