I feel like crying just at thought of what summer in the coming years in Kolkata would look like...

Writing this just after coming back home and taking a long cold shower. Ritimoto gaayer theke aagun jhorchilo chaan korar shomoye. Came home dripping wet from head to toe thanks to the insane weather today. I've hardly felt this level of humidity in the summer before in the city. Summers are always tough in the city but since the last two to three years, it's just insane and complete madness in the streets. Everywhere you see, people are just wet and drenched in sweat. No matter how much water or any cold drink you intake, nothing is working. A few weeks ago someone asked for suggestions of how to beat summer in the city and I gave a big list of what to have to feel better but shaala shob khaachi kintu kichu hocchena. Pantaa bhaat, doi chire, daaber jol, dine teen baar chaan, etc but nothing is working irrespective of whether you're outside or at home (unless you are in an airconditioned room 24*7). And the worst part is that the weather actually changes in the evening with nice cool breeze but it brings along double the humidity.

And I really can't wrap my head around this sudden change in temperature for the last few years in the city. I know global warming is a big part of this but what is it in the city that is specifically bringing in the rise in temperature here? We have good green cover compared to many other cities beating similar heatwave, if I'm not wrong both AC consumption and private transport usage is much lesser compared to other cities, way lesser glass buildings (just pointing out some of the reasons that lead to global warming), also correct me if I'm wrong but not many trees are being cut in the city right? But even after all these things, afternoons in the city literally feel like you're in a desert just with some added humidity.

I really fear what's in store for us in the future. I don't want to jinx it but we are still lucky for not facing any city wide water cuts like other cities despite such extreme summers so please help in conserving water so that the future doesn't look brim when it comes to water supply because people in this city waste water like anything throughout the year due to uninterrupted service. The day water tables recede and Hooghly di dries up, rumaaler gham jhoriye hego paacha dhute hobe.

In light of the recent terror attack- where do you stand?

The recent terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir has left the entire nation grieving and furious. But as I scroll through social media, I’m noticing two major camps emerging — and I’m curious where most of you stand.

Many of my Hindu friends are openly blaming the entire Muslim community — some are going as far as calling for a complete religious purge, or demanding an Israel-style response. Many are cutting ties with Muslim friends, advocating for war with Pakistan, or supporting policies that amount to collective punishment.

Others are pointing to intelligence failures, asking why such attacks are still happening despite all the surveillance and resources. They’re warning that this is exactly the kind of communal division terrorists want. They’re urging people not to fall into the trap of Islamophobia or Hinduphobia — and to direct anger at terrorists, not civilians.

Both camps seem emotionally charged. Both make some strong points. But where is the balance? How do we respond to terrorism without losing our humanity or national unity?

Genuinely curious to hear people’s views — not here to argue, just want to understand the spectrum of opinions better. Please keep it civil.

পশ্চিমবঙ্গ থেকে তিনজন আর দেশ থেকে ২৬ জন: সব হিন্দু, সব পুরুষ। এটা যে আমাদের পশ্চিম দিকের পড়শী দেশের কারবার সে সম্বন্ধে কোন সন্দেহই নেই। কারণ তিনটি:

১) কিছুদিন আগে ওই দেশে একটি বালোচ বিচ্ছিন্নতাবাদী গোষ্ঠী ঠিক একই পদ্ধতিতে বালোচিস্তানের এক নির্জন এলাকায় একটি ট্রেন থামিয়ে, তার থেকে লোক নামিয়ে, তাদের আইডি কার্ড দেখে, বালোচ ছাড়া আর সবাইকে গুলি করে মেরেছিল। ওদের সরকার এবং সামরিক বাহিনী চিরকাল যা করে এসেছে ঠিক সেইভাবে এই ঘটনার জন্য ভারতকেই দায়ী ধরেছিল, আর বলেছিল যে এটার ফল ভারত অদূর ভবিষ্যতে পাবে।

২) কাশ্মীরের এই আতঙ্কবাদী জঙ্গি গোষ্ঠিটি আর যাই হোক বালোচ নয়, কারণ তারা প্রথম থেকেই ওদের সাথে না থেকে ভারতেই থাকতে চেয়েছিল, আর আজও ওখানকার সরকারের থেকে ভারতকেই ওরা বেশি মানে। কিন্তু এটা স্পষ্ট যে যারাই করে থাকুক, বালোচ গোষ্ঠীর কর্মপদ্ধতি হুবহু নকল করেছে।

৩) সংবিধানের ৩৭০ অনুচ্ছেদ সরিয়ে দেওয়ার পর থেকেই ওদের ভারতের উপরে আক্রোশটা প্রচন্ডভাবে বেড়েছে। মুসলমান ছাড়া অন্য ভারতীয়রা যে ওখানে গিয়ে থাকছে বা ব্যবসা করছে এটা ওদের একেবারেই সহ্যের বাইরে। আর দ্বিতীয়ত ওখানে যে অর্থনৈতিক উন্নতি হচ্ছিল সেটাও ওরা চায় না, তার কারণ অর্থনৈতিক উন্নতি হলে সেই জায়গা থেকে জঙ্গি খুঁজে পাওয়া কঠিন হয়ে যায়। এই ঘটনার পরে স্বাধীন ভারতের ইতিহাসে প্রথম বার কাশ্মীরের লোকেরা একত্রিত হয়ে রাস্তায় মিছিল বার করে এই ঘটনার জন্য ক্ষোভ ঘৃণা এবং বিরোধ প্রকাশ করেছে। তাছাড়া এই ঘটনাতে কাশ্মীরের লোকেরই সবথেকে বেশি ক্ষতি কারণ পর্যটক যাওয়া একেবারেই বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে এবং ভবিষ্যতেও বন্ধই থাকবে।

এই ঘটনার পর ওদের বিরুদ্ধে ভারত সরকার যে পাঁচটি পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করেছে সেগুলো সবই উচিত এবং বহুদিন আগেই করা উচিত ছিল। সিন্ধু নদীর জল বন্ধ করে দেওয়া, ওয়াগা আটারি সীমান্ত বন্ধ করে দেওয়া, ওদের হাই কমিশন থেকে সামরিক অধিকারীদের ফেরত পাঠানো আর ওখানকার ভারতীয় হাইকমিশন থেকে আমাদের অধিকারীদের ফেরত আনানো, ওখানকার লোকেদের ভারত আসবার ভিসা পুরোপুরি বন্ধ করে দেওয়া আর যারা ভারতে ছিল তাদের পয়লা মে এর আগে ফেরত পাঠিয়ে দেওয়া এই সবকটিই উত্তম উপায়।

কিন্তু শুধুমাত্র এইটুকু করলে এবার আর হবে না। এর থেকেও বেশি করতে হবে, তবে সেটা বুঝে শুনে, তার কারণ দুটি দেশের কাছেই পারমাণবিক মারণাস্ত্র আছে। আর সামরিক বাহিনী ছাড়াও, কাশ্মীরে আমাদের নিরাপত্তা ও গোয়েন্দা সংস্থাগুলির কার্যক্রম আরো অনেক বাড়াতে হবে। এইবারে যেটা হলো সেটা সুরক্ষা বিভাগ আর গোয়েন্দা বিভাগের বিশাল ব্যর্থতা।

একজন আত্মীয় এর দুটি কিডনি নষ্ট।হয় যাওয়ার দরুন তিনি এখন আপাতত ILS হাস্পাতালএ ভর্তি আছেন। কিছু দিন আগে ভেল্লোর থেকে ঘুরে আসা হয় ওখানে জানায় যে কিডনি পেলে তারপর ট্রান্সপ্ল্যান্ট এর ব্যবস্থা করতে। সেটার সূত্রেই আপনাদের কাছে অনুরোধ। কেউ এই বিষয়ে জেনে থাকলে কোথা থেকে কিভাবে জোগাড় করা যাবে। বা কেউ যদি ইচ্ছুক হয় ডোনেট করতে তেমন কেউ জানা থাকলে।
