Dr Tony Holohan has issued a stark warning after it was revealed that Ireland now has the highest incidence rates of Covid-19 in the EU.
Deaths related to the virus have also surged to levels not seen since April with the country's top doc cautioning that the situation may require the return of restrictions in the future.
New figures released from the ECDC shows that the incidence rate in Ireland now stands at just over 500 cases per 100,000 population.
