❗Mexico erupts in Cartel Violence as Son of 'El Chapo' captured

Days before 🇺🇸 President Joe Biden is due to visit, 🇲🇽 authorities took down Ovidio Guzman, son of Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman who is currently jailed in the United States.

Cartel gunmen blocked roads in Culiacan and attempted to rescue the 32-year-old amid gun battles with security forces. Authorities reported seven security force personnel killed, 29 people wounded - including 8 civilians.

Guzman was flown to Mexico City, despite cartel attacks on Culiacan airport, one of which hit an Aeromexico flight which was due to fly to the capital. The airline reported no injuries.

Russian Church Calls For ‘Christmas Truce’ In Ukraine

The primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, has called on the forces of both Russia and Ukraine to cease hostilities in the run-up to and during Christmas. Both Ukrainian and Russian Orthodox faithful traditionally celebrate the holiday on January 7.

In a statement on Wednesday, Patriarch Kirill addressed to “all parties embroiled in internal strife…an appeal to cease fire and establish a Christmas truce from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7.”

The purpose of the ceasefire would be to enable the Orthodox faithful “to attend services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day,” Kirill stated.
