RT World News (RSS)

The latest โ€œlethal aidโ€ falls short of Kievโ€™s demands for more powerful weapons

The US government is set to supply Ukraine with a number of armored personnel carriers in an upcoming aid package, described as โ€œtank-killersโ€ by a senior military official. The move follows reports that Washington is still refusing to consider heavier armor for Kiev, despite its repeated requests for the Abrams main battle tank.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder announced the latest aid on Thursday, telling reporters that Kiev will re...

Scientists Create Stab-Proof, Self-Healing Robot

Humanityโ€™s thirst for vengeance continued today, as scientists invented a robot that can be repeatedly stabbed for their own amusement. The eggheads at New Yorkโ€™s Cornell University have invented a weird starfish looking thing that can not only sense when it has been stabbed, but also try and wiggle away, before later healing its own wounds so the cycle of horror can begin anew. The robotโ€™s โ€˜skinโ€™ is made from a special polyurethane polymer than will spontaneously reform when exposed to air, and the robot can use a series of fiber-optic sensors to โ€˜seeโ€™ when it has been hurt, and is programmed to move away from the knife-wielding mad scientists while it heals (which only takes about a minute).

The new tech will have applications not just in robotics, but also for people in many dangerous environments, such as self-healing spacesuit...

EU State Breaks Ranks On Russian Assets

Estonia will not wait for an all-EU decision and will devise its own framework for confiscating Russian assets blocked by Brussels in response to Moscowโ€™s military intervention in Ukraine, the countryโ€™s foreign minister, Urmas Reinsalu, said.

โ€œEuropean countries have instructed the European Commission to create a legal scheme that would allow the use of frozen assets for the aid and recovery of Ukraine. But there is no consensus on this issue yet,โ€ Reinsalu told the newspaper Postimees on Wednesday.

โ€œWe have discussed this in the government and decided that, in parallel with [the EU], we will start devising a legal framework that would allow us to use these funds,โ€ the minister said, adding that the move could create a precedent for international law.
