Wall Street sees S&P 500 flat this year

Wall Street's top strategists are making a wide range of forecasts for 2023, reflecting the current high uncertainty amid slowing growth and persistent financial tightening by central banks.

The S&P 500 is projected to average 4,031 at the end of 2023, up only about 6% from its current level of about 3,825.

This year, equity analysts have been more cautious, after overestimating the S&P 500 index's performance in 2022 by nearly 40%, marking their biggest miss since 2008, when analysts overshot by 92%.

Many macro strategists have also said in their 2023 outlooks they expect the US economy to slip into recession by mid-year, further undermining equity valuations as corporate profits slump and unemployment climbs.

Djokovic Backs Russian Players

Novak Djokovic has backed the rights of Russian and Belarusian players to appear on the world tennis tour, despite the widespread bans imposed across a range of other sports.

Tennis has been among the outliers in global sport after governing bodies the ATP and WTA allowed players such as Russian menโ€™s star Daniil Medvedev and Belarusian womenโ€™s ace Aryna Sabalenka to continue to compete at major events.

โ€œOf course, of course, absolutely,โ€ Djokovic was quoted as saying when asked if he wanted to see every player compete at every Grand Slam.

โ€œI hope [Daniil Medvedev] and other Russian, Belarusian players will be able to play everywhere,โ€ added the 21-time Grand Slam winner.

Chinese man runs marathon while smoking cigarettes ๐Ÿšฌ

The 50-year-old man, known as 'Uncle Chen', has an unusual habit. He likes to smoke while he runs. Once he even ran a 42-kilometer marathon while puffing on cigarettes. However, not everyone has been impressed by the Chinese manโ€™s peculiar regimen. Some people accused him of harming the health of other competitors with secondhand smoke. Do you agree with the critics?

Another old man who lives in India also runs in an unusual way. Wishwanathan Jayaraman is able to run barefoot about 32 kilometers every day. He was inspired by Mahatma Gandhiโ€™s philosophy.

Effect Of EU Sanctions On Russia โ€˜Less Than Zeroโ€™ โ€” MEP

The EUโ€™s sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine conflict have been a complete failure, Belgian member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt said. He added that the EU was only โ€œrewardingโ€ Russia by increasing imports from the country.

Writing on Twitter, Verhofstadt, who served as Belgian prime minister from 1999 to 2008 and has been an MEP since 2009, claimed that the effect of the EUโ€™s nine packages of sanctions on Moscow โ€œis less than 0.โ€

The former PM said that in the blocโ€™s attempts to punish Russia, it has achieved the opposite result. โ€œWe are rewarding Russia for its war against us!โ€
