Ukraine Estimates Cost Of Reconstruction

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Tuesday that โ€œmore than $700 billionโ€ will be needed to repair the damage due to the conflict, double the estimate given by Kiev in June. President Vladimir Zelensky had put the figure at $1 trillion at the end of December.

โ€œTogether with the World Bank, we plan to conduct another verification of Ukraine's needs for a quick recovery,โ€ Shmygal told the cabinet meeting in Kiev, according to the UNIAN news agency. โ€œLet me remind you that we had such an estimate at the beginning of June. Then the figure was $350 billion in damage. Given the latest attacks on our infrastructure, today this amount reaches more than $700 billion.โ€

Meanwhile, he said that Kiev intends to use the 17 billion hryvnia ($426.6 million) already confiscated from Russian banks on rebuilding residences destroyed in the fight...

Effect of EU sanctions on Moscow is โ€˜less than zeroโ€™ โ€“ MEP
RT World News (RSS)

Despite the blocโ€™s attempts to punish Russia, imports from the country have soared, Guy Verhofstadt says

The EUโ€™s sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine conflict have been a complete failure, Belgian member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt said on Monday. He added that the EU was only โ€œrewardingโ€ Russia by increasing imports from the country.

Writing on Twitter, Verhofstadt, who served as Belgian prime minister from 1999 to 2008 and has been an MEP since 2009, claimed that the effect of the EUโ€™s nine packages of sanctions on Moscow โ€œis less than 0.โ€

The former PM said that in the blocโ€™s attempts to...

US To Execute First Transgender Convict

Amber McLaughlin is set to become the first transgender โ€˜womanโ€™ executed by the US. Unless Missouri Governor Mike Parson grants clemency, McLaughlin will be put to death on Tuesday for the rape and murder of a former girlfriend.

Should McLaughlinโ€™s appeal for clemency fail, the 49-year-old will be the first criminal executed by the US this year, and the first transgender person executed in US history. McLaughlin is scheduled to die by lethal injection in Missouriโ€™s execution chamber in the city of Bonne Terre.

Biologically male and having gone by the name Scott, McLaughlin raped an ex-girlfriend and stabbed her to death in 2003, having previously been convicted for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in 1992.
