Ireland's electricity grid is facing an increased prospect of blackouts this winter as emergency plans to import power generators have stalled, a professor of energy engineering at University College Cork has said.

EirGrid, which operates Ireland's electricity grid, has said "maintaining the balance between supply and demand has become increasingly challenging" due to a number of factors.

In a statement, the power transmission operator said: "Certain types of conventional generation providing additional backup are being phased out in line with European directives."

EirGrid also said Covid-19 has delayed annual maintenance and repair to generators, with two gas generators in Cork and Dublin, which comprise 15% of conventional generation, out of service since last winter pending repair.

I strongly urge ALL parents of school going children to watch this video by Tracey O’Mahony BL, she addresses the following questions, in detail.

1. The rights of a school to ask whether your child has been vaccinated against Covid-19
- can be found at 58 seconds

2. The rights of a school to require your child’s temperature to be checked each day as a condition of admission - can be found at 4.04 minutes

3. The age at which a child can provide consent to medical treatment without parental knowledge or consent - can be found at 6.34 minutes

4. Whether it would be possible to make mandatory in law the Covid-19 vaccine for children in schools - can be found at 10.46 minutes

5. Whether one parent or two parent consent is required for medical treatment for your child (which includes the Covid-19 vaccine) - can be found at 13.04 minutes

I also strongly urge parents to disregard and ignore the deluge of “tiktok/YouTube” knobheads (Ms. O’Mahony is far too polite to use such descriptive terms – but – I am not) so I repeat – knobheads – scrambling for their own little bit of “fame and notoriety” by posting self-serving, ill-informed, “look at me striding about/cowering in my car and being all important and knowledgeable and deep about things I know nothing about”

I appreciate that this is a very difficult time for parents, and that the pressures and coercion and relentless bullying from all sides is almost unbearable – and is now being directed AT your children – but – hold fast – hang in there – hard though this might be to believe the tide is turning – granted painfully slow, and with seemingly no end in sight to this madness.

Keep your children close – keep them informed – yes – even the little ones – let your strength give THEM strength – don’t hide the truth from them – TELL them that what is happening, not just in the world at large, but even in their own schools is BULLYING.

Even if it is their beloved “teachers” doing it. Never mind being your child’s Parent – you are your children’s GUARDIANS – and that ultimately, it is your right to protect your children from ANYBODY and anything that threatens YOUR child’s safety, wellbeing and welfare.

Nando's could not say how many outlets were affected.

The firm's Twitter account has now confirmed branches at Braintree, Camberley, Coventry Arena, Eltham, Enfield, Shrewsbury and Telford are all closed today.

Nando's has had to shut several restaurants after running out of food with other branches forced to open with reduced hours.

The restaurant chain, known for its spicy peri-peri chicken, said the problem was due to staff shortages with its suppliers.
