Saudi Aramco Q3 Net Income Leaps 39% to $42.4 Billion

Saudi Arabia’s state oil producer Aramco outperformed analysts’ expectations to post a whopping $42.4 billion net income for July-September this year, marking a 39% year-on-year rise.

The giant also revealed free cash flow of $45 billion, allowing it to deliver dividends of $18 billion to be paid next quarter - and it expects demand for oil to grow consistently over the next decade.

Royalties and taxes due to be paid out, however, totaled $24.3 billion - more than double last year’s third quarter.

Experimental Antibody Malaria Drug Tested in Africa

African researchers believe a new one-time drug created from lab-made malaria-fighting antibodies can protect adults from the deadly disease for six months with just one IV-delivered dose.

The US-developed experimental treatment proved 88% more effective at warding off infection than a placebo in the study of 330 villagers in Mali, by breaking the life cycle of parasites before they enter the liver where they can multiply.

Estimates suggest the treatment could cost as little as $5 per child per malaria season.
