Petrobras Stocks Slide after Lula’s Win Announced

Brazilian state-owned oil giant Petrobras tumbled 4.86% during Monday trading on the back of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s apparent win over presidential election rival Jair Bolsonaro amidst fears he will clamp down on soaring profits for social needs.

Petrobras produces some 2.7 million barrels of oil per day, and had seen earnings blossom 34% to $1.66 per share with revenue exploding 65% to $32.8 billion in Q2.

Bolsonaro has suggested he intended to privatize Petrobras, while Lula reportedly plans to implement sweeping climate change legislation.
