No party is poised to win an outright majority, the polls say
Israel is holding a parliamentary election on Tuesday, its fifth in less than four years, as the parties hope to finally break the government gridlock and end the prolonged political crisis.
According to the final polls, released four days before the vote, the bloc of opposition parties led by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will win 60 seats in the Knesset, the countryโs parliament, just one short of a majority. His main rival, Prime Minister Yair Lapid, and the coalition he leads, is projected to win 56 seats.

But there can be little doubt that had he seen this cartoon by the Palestinian cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh, he would have been moved. I recently visited Italy and saw Michelangeloโs masterpiece, the Pietร . It is so powerful that it draws you into the point where you feel the pain of the mother, Mary, holding the dead, limp body of her young, crucified son. It is a powerful image that recreates the moment that is perhaps more painful than any we can imagine: a mother grieving over her slain son. What could be worse than parents burying their children?...
