Moscow Summons Dutch Envoy Over Spy Ruse

The Foreign Ministry called in the Dutch ambassador on Monday over an alleged attempt by UK intelligence to recruit a senior Russian diplomat in the Netherlands.

The incident follows several instances during which Western intelligence has tried to approach Russian personnel serving abroad, Moscow says.

The ministry said it had voiced a โ€œstrong protestโ€ to Netherlandsโ€™ envoy Gilles Beschoor Plug, claiming that โ€œa representative of British intelligence servicesโ€ had tried to sway a Russian military attache in the Hague on October 20.
