100+ Dead in Philippines Mega-Storm

Over 100 people have been killed as vicious storms lashed the Philippines, with authorities stating dozens more are missing - potentially buried by a huge mudslide.

Flash floods and landslides sparked by Tropical Storm Nalgae affected some 2 million people - including almost 1 million villagers displaced to evacuation centers - while Manila International Airport was briefly closed.

At least 69 people were also injured alongside a further 63 missing according to official data.

HUSD Stablecoin Collapses to 28 Cents After Huobi Delisting

Following the Huobi crypto exchange’s decision to delist the HUSD stablecoin last Friday, the asset plummeted from its $1 peg to just 28 cents.

Huobi had actively pushed HUSD since its launch in 2018, but new senior executive Justin Sun has begun shifting volume to his USDD, while users can transfer their holdings to Tether, the largest stablecoin by market cap.

HUSD’s market cap is now just $63 million, down from a record high of over $1 billion last year.

Hackers Attack Australian Defense Communications Platform

A communications platform used by Australian military and defense personnel has been attacked by ransomware hackers, officials announced Monday.

Assistant Minister for Defense Matt Thistlethwaite insisted no data had been compromised from the ForceNet service and systems had not been affected, but ABC reported some private data may have been stolen.

The attack follows similar ransomware ambushes in Australia recently, including to the country’s second-largest telecoms company Optus and the biggest healthcare insurer Medibank Private.

Musk to Charge $20 For Twitter Verification - report

Twitter is set to ramp up its exclusive service to force verified accounts to pay a $19.99 monthly fee to keep their blue tick as new boss Elon Musk confirmed Sunday the process was being “revamped”, according to a report by The Verge.

Twitter Blue - the platform’s optional subscription service for added features - will be expanded to include a mandatory verification service, the report states, adding that verified users have 90 days to pay up or lose their prized status.

Investment manager Ross Gerber also claims a senior exec indicated to him that part of Musk’s belt-tightening will include a 50% cut in Twitter’s workforce.
