NATO Applicant Nation Outlines Stance On Hosting Nuclear Weapons

NATO could establish permanent bases or deploy nuclear weapons in Finland once the country joins the bloc, Prime Minister Sanna Marin has warned, although she added that the latter scenario is unlikely.

โ€œIโ€™ve considered it very important that we donโ€™t set these kinds of pre-conditions, or limit our own room for maneuvering, when it comes to permanent bases or nuclear weapons,โ€ Marin said on Finlandโ€™s Yle TV1 channel on Saturday.

She promptly qualified her statement by adding that such a development was not necessarily on the cards.

Elon Musk orders job cuts at Twitter

Days after acquiring Twitter, its chief Elon Musk has reportedly ordered some managers on Saturday to "draw up lists of employees to cut".

Previous reports indicate Musk seeks to cut down on Twitterโ€™s workforce by 75%, though he reportedly told employees otherwise when he arrived at the company's headquarters carrying a sink on Wednesday.

Twitter currently has about 7,500 employees, but the number of staff being laid off remains to be seen, although it is noted that some departments will be affected more than others.

Layoffs could occur before November 1, the same day employees are due to receive stock grants, which "typically represent a significant portion" of their pay. By firing workers before this date, Musk thus may avoid paying the grants....

EU Gas Prices To Remain High For Years โ€” Equinor CEO

Natural gas prices will remain high in the EU for years due to the drop in deliveries from Russia, the CEO of Norway's state energy giant Equinor said on Friday.

โ€œThe fundamental problem in Europe is a shortage of gas and there will be a shortage over time, and if Europe is to attract that gas it should expect to pay a high price in the coming years,โ€ Anders Opedal told a news conference, according to Reuters.

He said Norway is currently providing record volumes of gas to the bloc, but warned that the latest EU proposals to cap prices for the commodity may prove to be โ€œcounterproductiveโ€ in battling the energy crisis.

Russia & China Could Shatter Dollar Dominance โ€” Diplomat

The transition to trade in national currencies between Russia and China will contribute to a global de-dollarization process, China's Charge d'Affaires in Russia said this week at a conference on the matter.

โ€œThe existing economic partnership between China and Russia and the long-term accumulated level of trade have laid a solid foundation for further deepening cooperation between our countries,โ€ Sun Weidong said, noting that bilateral trade has risen dramatically, mostly on energy and agriculture supplies.

โ€œEnergy cooperation continues to play an important role in relations between the two countries, in addition, agricultural products and seafood from Russia are increasingly entering the Chinese market,โ€ the diplomat said.

Moscow Responds To Criticism Over Grain Deal Suspension

Russiaโ€™s decision to suspend the grain deal with Ukraine was prompted by Kievโ€™s reckless actions, Moscowโ€™s ambassador to Washington said on Sunday, while describing Western condemnation of the move as unwarranted.

Russia halted its compliance with the agreement, brokered by the UN and Tรผrkiye, after Kiev conducted a major drone attack on ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet involved in securing safe passage for agricultural cargo.

Speaking to reporters, Anatoly Antonov said: "Washington's reaction to the terrorist attack on the port of Sevastopol is truly outrageous,โ€ adding that the US refrained from condemning โ€œthe reckless actions of the Kiev regime.โ€
