Iran Prison Fire Death Toll Rises to Eight

Tehran officials confirmed Monday at least eight inmates were killed in Saturday’s horrific fire at the capital’s Evin prison after some succumbed to their injuries on Sunday, with six more reportedly still hospitalized.

Iran’s judiciary said the incident was “a fight between inmates and a fire” via their news agency Mizan, while activists insist it was sparked by the nationwide protests linked to the death of Mahsa Amini.

Human rights groups have claimed the facility has seen significant abuse of prisoners, some of whom are dual nationals and some said to be political detainees.

Uganda Regions Face 2-Week Ebola Lockdown

Elon Musk To Allow People To Donate To Starlink

The Tesla billionaire said via Twitter that SpaceX will add an option to donate cash to fund Starlink in “places of need.”

Musk’s post was in reply to a venture capitalist’s offer to donate money to the service to get internet connection to schools and hospitals in remote Uganda.

Last week Musk floated the idea of asking the Pentagon for help financing Starlink in Ukraine - but later decided to continue providing the service pro bono.

The UN’s refugee agency has called for a full investigation after reports emerged of 92 migrants stripped completely naked at the Turkish border with Greece, as both countries blamed the other.

Greek police and EU border agency Frontex claimed the migrants had been pushed into Greek territory on dinghies across the Evros River with no food, supplies, or clothes, which Athens’ Minister for Migration and Asylum Notis Mitarachi called a “shame for civilization.”

Turkish Deputy Interior Minister Ismail Catakli refuted claims of Türkiye’s responsibility, rejecting Mitarachi’s calls for Ankara to launch an investigation and accusing Greece of “manipulation and dishonesty.”
