Chinese Military Shake-up To Indicate Taiwan Intentions — Analysis

The leadership structure of China’s two million-strong People’s Liberation Army is set to face major changes after President Xi Jinping opened the Communist Party Congress on Sunday with a vow to accelerate the development of a world-class military.

Of the Central Military Commission’s six senior officers, four are expected to retire, with the replacements a key indicator of Xi’s intentions for Taiwan, especially after he insisted China “be prepared for danger in times of peace.”

The replacements’ likely relative lack of combat experience combined with an apparent lack of ability to fully integrate its forces during recent drills has led the Pentagon to assess a Taiwan invasion is unlikely in the next two years.

Bolsonaro stunned Lula by clawing back the poll deficit to just 5%, forcing the runoff in the first place. The pair are scheduled to have one more TV debate days before the crucial vote.
