German Airport's Chinese Scanner Purchase Prompts Security Fears
Baggage-scanning equipment made by Chinese company Nuctech has flustered European MEPs, worried about "dependency on a state-owned enterprise which is bound byโฆChinese intelligence law." (Reuters)
"Nuctech's rapid development raises concerns about the risks of adopting Chinese technology in our border security systems," Bart Groothuis, Nathalie Loiseau and Reinhard Bรผtikofer wrote in a letter to a Strasbourg representative.
Nuctech's X-ray scanning and sensors for ports and airports was previously blacklisted by the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security, Commerce. The company did not respond for comment on the letter.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Warns Of Major Drop in US Stock Market
The US stock market will drop another 30% due to a severe recession that is looming, according to the boss of Wall Street banking giant JPMorgan Chase, Jamie Dimon, as cited by Bloomberg.
Dimon expects the Federal Reserve to raise the key interest rate higher than the 4 - 4.5% level many analysts have predicted so far, due to persisting inflation stemming from the lasting effects of the pandemic and soaring energy prices.
โI donโt know if it could be a soft landing - I donโt think so, but it might,โ Dimon said at a conference in Washington DC on Thursday, according to the agency. โIn a tough recession, you could expect the market to go down another 20% to 30%,โ he added.
