Latest EU Sanctions on Russia: Includes Steel, IT Industry but Diamonds Spared

Everyday items like beauty products, soap and toilet paper will no longer be imported from Moscow, based on details released by the European Commission on a proposed eighth package of sanctions against Russia. (Politico)

The 🇪🇺 plans to bar “certain elements used in the jewellery industry” and impose sanctions on 🇷🇺’s largest diamond mining firm, although it will not ban Russian diamonds.

The draft text, which includes a curb on the export of tech components that power Russia’s military, will be presented to the 27 member countries next week, it will require unanimous approval to be signed off.

Hungary's presidential office has already said it plans to reject it.

French Union Strike Disrupt Energy Sector

A nationwide strike called by local trade unions hit France’s energy sector on Thursday, as industry workers, including from the electricity and nuclear sectors, demanded higher pay, a 32-hour working week and a lower retirement age of 60.

The 24-hour action noticeably lowered the countrywide energy output all across the board with nuclear power generation cut by 3.3 gigawatts, while also affecting the work of TotalEnergies refineries.

Actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger went on tour at Auschwitz Memorial Museum in Poland, the sight of the Nazi-era Jewish death camp.

The Hollywood legend attempted to bring awareness to the issue of antisemitism, but may have inadvertently stolen his own cause’s spotlight by writing a quote from the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day in the institution’s guest book.

The museum's official Twitter account shared a photo of the words “I’ll be back,” written above Schwarzenegger’s autograph, which appeared to puzzle quite a few commenters.

13 Dead in Iranian Attacks on Kurdish Rebels in Iraq — report

A Kurdish journalist has accused Tehran of killing 13 people and injuring 58 more in missile and drone attacks on Iranian Kurdish opposition in Iraqi territory.

Reporting also suggest that one of the victims was a pregnant woman.

Tehran officially launched a drone bombing campaign on Wednesday, using “precision missiles” and “suicide drones” on Iranian-Kurdish opposition in northern Iraq, according to Iranian state TV.

Shares of the luxury automaker Porsche have risen on their first day of public trading, as Parent company Volkswagen carried out one of Europe’s largest ever initial public offerings.
