Millions Lose Power as Hurricane Ian Moves through Florida
Some 2.5 million Florida households were left without electricity as the devastating Hurricane Ian - one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the US mainland - moved through the state with “catastrophic” 150mph winds.
The calamity caused floods, submerged vehicles and damaged buildings, authorities said. Florida governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency.
Ian weakened on Thursday morning as it was downgraded from a category 4 to a category 1 storm as it continues its north-easterly oath towards Orlando.

India Legalizes Universal Abortion Rights After Top Court Ruling
India's Supreme Court on Thursday upheld women’s rights to have an abortion up to 24 weeks into pregnancy regardless of marital status.
"The decision to have or not to have an abortion is borne out of complicated life circumstances, which only the woman can choose on her own terms without external interference or influence," the ruling said.
The decision came in response to a petition by a woman who said that her pregnancy resulted from a relationship, but she had sought abortion when said relationship failed.
