Tehran Accuses US of Exploiting Unrest to Weaken Iran

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani claimed "Washington is always trying to weaken Iran's stability and security although it has been unsuccessful," in the wake of recent unrest in his country.

He claimed Washington and other western leaders were ignoring "the presence of millions of people in the streets and squares of the country in support of the system,” as state TV claimed at least 17 have died in the unrest since September 17.

Last week the US imposed further sanctions on Iran’s morality police whom it blames for the death of Mahsa Amini in their custody, while Canadian PM Justin Trudeau announced Monday his country would follow suit.

Hurricane Ian to Pound Cuba, Threatens Cat-4 Level En Route for Florida

Following Cuba’s evacuation of 50,000 from the island’s western tip, where the US national Hurricane Center expects as much as 4.3 meters of “life-threatening” storm surge.

Ian is expected to strengthen into a Category 4 storm with powerful winds up to 140 mph (225 kph) as it heads for Florida; Tampa and St Petersburg are likely to be in line for their first direct hurricane contact in over a century.

Governor Ron DeSantis has already mobilized 5,000 Florida state national guard troops as some of 300,000 potential evacuees were already moved out of Hillsborough County alone Monday.

NASA Hails $325 Million Asteroid-Busting Dart Spacecraft Mission

NASA officials have claimed Monday’s mission that slammed a spacecraft into an asteroid to test future planet-saving operations was a success, although it will take two months to determine the exact effect the impact had.

A harmless 5 billion kg 160m-wide asteroid 7 million miles from earth was rammed by NASA’s vending machine-sized Dart spacecraft at 14,000mph with the aim of altering the space rock’s course.

Planetary defense experts claim fewer than 1% of millions of smaller asteroids, and far less than half of the 25,000 near-Earth 140m+ objects. have been discovered.

$8 Billion US Navy Warship Heads for East Asia

The most advanced surface warship in the US Navy has arrived in the western Pacific after joining the US’ largest destroyer squadron outside the States in Japan Monday.

The US Naval Institute reported last month that the Zumwalt will be upgraded next year to accommodate Common Hypersonic Glide Body Missiles which can reach Mach 5 speeds.

The 610ft (185m) USS Zumwalt displaces 16,000 metric tons, is armed with 80 vertical missile launch cells that can target land, sea and underwater targets, and boasts a stealth capacity to evade most radar.
