Boeing to Pay $200mn Over Plane Safety Following Deadly Plane Crashes

Boeing has agreed to pay $200 million after the US Securities and Exchange Commission charged the aircraft maker and its former chief executive with misleading investors.

The incident in question involved former chief Dennis Muilenburg assuring the public that its 737 Max plane was "as safe as any that has ever flown the skies," while knowing of a safety issue with the automated flight-control system, implicated in 2 crashes which took 346 lives in 2019.

The settlement also involves Muilenburg paying $1 million of his personal funds, despite being fired from the company three years ago.

Universities should not switch back to online classes in order to cope with the energy crisis, French Higher Education Minister Sylvie Retailleau has said.

Her statement comes as France and other European countries are increasingly looking for cost-saving measures amid the soaring energy prices and growing fears of gas shortages.
