Assaults, Shootings and Shamen: Bizarre Twist in Footballer Scandal

"If you are watching this video, my brother Paul Pogba has found a way to silence me. I am no longer free," Mathias Pogba claims in a newly-released string of videos, in the latest bizarre twist in an explosive extortion case involving one of the worldโ€™s most prominent football players.

The seemingly pre-recorded "insurance" videos claim French icon Paul Pogba has plunged his family into poverty, put them at risk of retribution from gangsters, and spent millions on a witch doctor to "neutralize" rival Kylian Mbappรฉ before a match in 2019.

Paris prosecutors have opened an investigation into allegations that Pogba's brother and childhood friends are attempting to extort โ‚ฌ13 million from him. Mathias denies the claim.

UK Faces Growing Toxic Waste Challenges

The UK's nuclear waste disposal facilities are some of the most hazardous in the world according to a new report that highlights the cleanup bill from the degrading sites could skyrocket to ยฃ260bn.

That's as newly appointed PM Liz Truss puts her faith in nuclear power to settle UK energy concerns, despite aging equipment and electrical systems already having caused a blaze at the country's largest facility.

Analysis by Stephen Thomas, a professor of energy policy at the University of Greenwich, has revealed that major work is needed to decommission old stations, punching a hole in the UK budget.

UN Food Chief Warns Millions โ€œKnocking on Famineโ€™s Doorโ€

Around 50 million people are now on the brink of famine, while even greater numbers face food insecurity, according to UN food chief David Beasley. (Associated Press)

โ€œFifty million people in 45 countries are knocking on famineโ€™s door. If we donโ€™t reach these people, you will have famine, starvation, destabilization of nations unlike anything we saw in 2007-2008 and 2011, and you will have mass migration.โ€

The reason for the food crisis is the fact that grain shipments from both Ukraine and Russia, which typically export enough goods to feed hundreds of millions of people, have fallen sharply. Economic sanctions on Russia have exacerbated the issue, as fertilizer exports from Russia, the worldโ€™s second-largest producer behind China, have declined significantly.
