Deputy FM Ryabkov Warns West Against Direct Military Confrontation

Russian deputy foreign minister Sergey Ryabkov has warned the US and western allies against interfering in the special military operation in Ukraine, insisting Moscow is not threatening anyone with the use of nuclear weapons.

Ryabkov also accused Washington of deliberately lowering the nuclear threshold and thus threatening Russia's national security.

“Open confrontation with the US and NATO is not in Russia’s interests; we hope that the Biden administration understands the risks of escalation around Ukraine,” he added.

US and China Diplomacy Chiefs to Meet Friday

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in New York on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly this Friday.

The meeting comes following months of tensions over Taiwan, most notably House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s controversial visit to the island.

During his speech at the UN, president Joe Biden said that American forces would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese military action. Beijing in its turn said the speech sent a wrong signal to those seeking an independent Taiwan.
