UK Launches Amazon, Microsoft and Google Cloud Competition Probe

UK communications regulator Ofcom announced on Thursday it will launch an investigation into cloud servers to find out if fair competition exists in the market where the three 'hyperscalers' - Amazon, Google and Microsoft - make up 81% of the revenue.

It also said it would look into messaging services such as WhatsApp, FaceTime and Zoom, as well as other digital markets such as smart speakers and TVs.

Enforcement action, policy changes or regulation could be brought in if experts find competition lacking when they conclude their probe within the next 12 months.
