In a statement released earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Laois County Council refused to grant the licence citing public health advice.
Laois Today reports it said: โLaois County Council has today made the decision to refuse a licence to hold the 2021 Electric Picnic event at Stradbally, Co Laois.

The drummer for the popular band The Offspring, Pete Parada, told his Instagram following yesterday that he has been kicked out of the band after, almost 15 years, because he is refusing to take the COVID vaccine for medical reasons.
Parada wrote on Instagram yesterday:
โGiven my personal medical history and the side-effect profile of these jabs, my doctor advised me not to get a shot at this time. I caught the virus over a year ago, it was mild for me โ so I am confident Iโd be able to handle it again, but Iโm not so certain Iโd survive another post-vaccination round of Guillain-Barrรฉ Syndrome, which dates back to my childhood and has evolved to be progressively worse over my lifetime. Unfortunately for me (and my family who is hoping to keep me around a bit longer) the risks far outweigh the benefits.โ

THE Attorney General Paul Gallagher has advised the Government that parties of up to 200 people are permitted outdoors.
The Attorney Generalโs intervention came after it emerged Tรกnaiste Leo Varadkar attended a party of 50 people organised by former minister Katherine Zappone.
In a statement from the Government Press Office, it is noted โfurther updates will be made to the guidelines to ensure that people have clarity about how organised outdoor events may operate into the futureโ.
Shortly after that statement this evening, Mr Varadkar also issued a statement saying he was โconfidentโ his attendance at the event did not breach public health guidelines.

Concerns over Passport Service staff as they deal with backlog of 112,000 applications during peak season
There are currently 112,000 applications outstanding with the Passport Service as an army of would-be foreign travellers and holidaymakers sweat on when their precious documents might arrive.
Some 50,000 of these applications require additional documentation โ usually a signed form by parents/guardians and a witness in the case of children, in order to conform with the Geneva Convention aimed at preventing the abduction of minors.
A further 62,000 applications are sitting with the Passport Service in processing, concerns about the number of staff involved in getting them out to citizens.
Staff are working long hours, and in some cases, on Saturdays and Sundays to attempt to deal with a growing workload.
